I am a young hippie, not yet 30. I observe my peers, the Suburbia Generation, having rejected the dominant culture of busy work and consumerism, we seem left with little to fall back on.

I want something better. I want to build a culture of sustainability, back to the land, intentional community, the hippie dream! I find myself and my brothers and sisters handicapped by our lack of skills, our lazy ways, and I ask myself where are our Elders, to show us a better way?

What did you learn, you old hippies, in your longer lives? Did you learn the value of contribution and determination. How to sit and listen to each other with respect? To work out your differences and come together in peace and harmony? How to unite celebration and hard work?

I call out to the old hippies that have learned that, because my parents, and most other old hippies I've met seem only to have learned how to sell out, play the game, give up your dreams and do what's easy.

We're now building intentional community, in our way only our own lack of empowerment, experience and guidance! Whatever happens, I will be here, an elder some day, to do what tribal elders have always done! Care for the young, raise another generation with values worth a shit! Even as we struggle to raise the generation of young children that we have, I know we will do better with their children, having learned something by then...

That is if we make it to that point. So old hippies, do you live your values or value your lives? Are you now supporting and depending on the system you don't believe in like the rest of the sheep, or are you empowered and motivated and holding true? Are you talking or walking?

So consider this a challenge, those of you who know I'm talking about you, and my apologies to all who are living their lives with intention... we need you, please come home soon.

    Love and Light,
Joshua of the Reading Rainbow Library

    walkin the walk...

Thinking back on the younger days, traveling & being free...I learned a lot, stored much info to use now. I think that during that time me'n'JuJu were supposed to be spreading the Word, the Light & we did, but I'd have to say that we depended more on babylonian green energy than we do now. We have different goals now; been learning how to grow food, been growing some life roots-something we didn't think we'd ever do-but we still stay as much on the fringes of the system as we can.

interesting. so this is really possible, there are still people out there living this kind of life, a free life?

be it farm or on the road?

im interested, but what would be a good start on this path?

I guess rejecting the "need" to own a nice house in the middle of a concrete, pesticide soaked covered slab?

Id like to buy some land and farm, but whats haning me up is getting the money together for that. that will require a decent job, which will require me to atleast buy a house, that way i can atleast have an investment that can help me buy the land. but if i do all that, it will be years till i can get land.

atleast thats one of the only efficient plans i can come up with, unless there is another way, another path.

maybe the elder's wisdom can help me.

id really appreciate advice, any kind.

im open to living nomadically and helping whoever i can, but again, how will i earn enough money to get land?
