We most likely aren't. I'm a pretty staunch libertarian but I'm starting to think some sort of public option just makes the most sense, economically.

i am becoming more libertarian as time passes, but idk, socialized healthcare: i think its like communism, a good idea in theory, but i'm not so sure it will work out in practice...especially right NOW.

have you been to europe? experienced the socialized healthcare over there? i have. it is GOD AWFUL.

people have spent literally YEARS sitting in queues for essential treatments for critical illness such as terminal cancer, only to receive sub-par treatment at underfunded facilities. why? because there is no need for the socialized healthcare to compete with other healthcare companies because the government is going to fund it regardless. people have to sit around for months, or even years, cutting red tape, in order to recieve healthcare treatment that they cannot live without.

socialized healthcare does not work in europe.

not only that but it puts a massive drain on the already overextended government budget. the last thing we need to do is get FURTHER into debt.

also, do we really need to be putting MORE power into the hands of the government? the feds already have enough power, we don't need to make them gods. this country was based on the premise of freedom and the right to individuality. the federal government is slowly swallowing up the individual, and the state. this can only end in disaster. the individual has a right to his own power, seperate to that of the government, as long as it is within the bounds of liberty. this is the fundamental concept behind the very creation of our country -- and clearly stated in both the second amendment and the declaration of independance. we do not need to be passing off our authority to the government, we need to man up and fix this mess we are all in ourselves.

this is exactly what they want. a quick and easy pass of this legislation below the radar of the general public.

I agree that we need help not getting into debt over hospital bills because we can't afford coverage or our insurance drops us.

What is this about? It's been stated that you can still buy your own insurance. I don't see any freedoms being taken from you.

Now you're starting to sound like you should be wearing a tin foil hat, because that is not what has happened. At all. The media won't shut up about the fucking health care reform or the retards who keep popping up at the town meetings.

i was talking about our national debt. we are currently over 10 trillion dollars deep. we can't just keep printing off money. the entire world economy is based off america.

yes but having one massive healthcare system that is controlled by the government isn't exactly my idea of liberty. lets keep the government out of our lives where we can, please. regulating the economy is one thing, but owning an integral part of it is another entirely.

yea, thankfully. but the original plan was to rush the bill through congress in less than a week.

i kind of like tinfoil hats. stops the evil government agents from reading my mind. plus they make me look damn sexy.

i havn't really been following the whole issue very closely. just bits and pieces. i'd love to hear more about what exactly is going on.

did i miss somthing? to be honest its very rare that i plug into any kind of news source. im a political athiest, and i dont appreciate the kind of word magic the media spins. we're gettin socialized healthcare round here?

i cant say that i care one way or the other really. i try my best to live in a parallel reality. i dont resort to allopathic medicine when i get sick, i have plenty of herbalist and naturalpathic freinds (study a bit myself), and i understand what health and medicine is. i also recognize the economy is just a myth as is the invisible structure that defines the USA inc. im fortunate enough to live in a lil pocket in the states where we're pretty damn good at doing things locally, so i can take care of myself by working with my neighbors.

a part of me really hopes the whole thing (this system i was born into, but never understood or respected) will just cave in already.

until then, ill wear the tinfoil hat

    :p

i don't really see why this is political garbage. it's pretty damn important. this is one of the definining issues of our time that is going to affect generations for years to come... it's not like the material on this forum has been very pressing lately anyway.

Would it be considered ok to start a thread in this section

    "Housing Market"

and have it be a discussion of the current state of the real estate business in Bolivia?

honestly the major problem in america is that us, citizens, just dont care. i mean, everyone knows which celebrety is dating who, but does anyone know the consiquences of socialized health care?? how about the consiquences of the cap and trade act?? nope we dont know that shit and many of us dont really give a shit because all the news we get is from mtv. oh by the way is it a coincidence that obama advertised so hard on myspace and mtv. seriously, we need to stop paying so much attention to fucking entertainment tonight and start giving a shit about our country!

so let me get this straight, you worry about the end of the world because of a mushroom god but not healthcare reform which will definately effect you and your family if you live in the us, hell it will even effect other contires finacially?

this is what im talking about, people know more about the new 2012 movie thats comming out in theaters but dont give a shit about actual important issues, thanks for proving my point.
