I talked to an air force pilot today, currently flies heavies (cargo aircraft), but used to fly combat missions during the first golf war. Now, we all know that drugs have been a part of warfare since the beginning of man-kind. BUT I did not realize they were still being used to this day. He told me that they would take "go pills" before their missions began that would keep them awake for 48 hrs +, their missions regularly ran past 24 hrs. Upon their return, after the effects wore off, they would take a "no go pill", and they would sleep for 18+ hours. This sounds a little like meth. Any thoughts, experience, or knowledge on this? My interest has been peaked.

What an epic war that was. :p

I've vaguely heard something like this before.
Not enough to say anything more though.
    Sounds interesting.
    *goes to look it up*

I wouldn't like to think pilots are forced to take
    Go:dextroamphetamine
No go: zolpidem (Ambien) and temazepam (Restoril)
But, can see why they need these kind of things.
Kinda makes me want pilotless drones though.

Thats classified information. I swear the internet is going to be the fall of our country one day... You can see classified weapon systems on youtube also. hmmm.

They should take his clearance away. They should mine too though. I will admit, I am loose with stuff too.

You were a marine, right? You know thats an opsec violation... Me even being part of this website is a no-no as well. But who cares?! We are fighting cave men, hahaha.

Though, I am not going to talk about that stuff on here. Good luck with your quest! I am sure there is an airforce board that has some dumb people that will tell you all the details. I'm surprised its not on wikipedia by now...

lol. like I said, the internet will be the end of us. They have been doing this for a long time though. There is a lot more than that posted on the net. No, I don't supposed CID agents will be coming for you nor me anytime soon. Thats why I don't care that I am on this site. :)

Yeah, I read stuff from 2003.
I'm not quite sure why you would be so on edge about awake/sleep pills.
I imagine every air force in the world uses them.
Why do you consider it a military secret?

Its not a 'secret' per-say, but it is 'unclassified' or 'confidential' information. That is the lowest there is, it falls into the same category as social security numbers and personal info. We are told not to talk about stuff like this outside of the military. Obviously it still gets out. Lower enlisted would get into trouble for something like this, but a Col. can do what ever the fuck he wants. Kinda like how we can only say certain things when the cameras come, but some people say a thing or two. A colonel can say stuff all day though.

We get day long briefings on what not to say and what to say. This fell under the what not to say. I guess it doesn't matter that much though. Their reasoning behind it was that "the enemy could use this information to their advantage." It wasn't classified secret, so I don't really care I guess. But I am not going to say stuff the army doesn't want me to. I will leave that up to other people.

I don't know though. They say we shouldn't say it yet everyone knows (almost) everything under secret. Some times the army confuses me, but I just do what I am told, mostly.

Yeah, man, I don't know what he's on about. This stuff is public knowledge. Everyone knows that the pilots are always on some sort of uppers. They used to be amphetamines, but now it's all the 'smart drugs' that you listed.

For anyone who thinks this is a secret, just google amphetamines + "air force" or "go pill" + "air force".

Is it really that big of a deal? I mean, doing it all day every day is obviously not good, but that's what those drugs are for.

Are they being forced to do the shit every day? That would be an ethical issue.

    codemeister3, seems fair enough.
But this particular issue seems harmless.
Most of your enemies probably use it or don't fly planes.

posted almost half an hour after I did. I know you just read what I posted... I never said it was a SECRET!

Lmao, if you know more about the military than I do, then I am a retarded ass mother fucker.

It really bugs me when people jump to conclusions. If you don't believe me, then join the military, ok?

It might no be the fact that they use them, maybe more so the, "air force pilot today, currently flies heavies (cargo aircraft), but used to fly combat missions during the first golf war." and "take "go pills" before their missions began that would keep them awake for 48 hrs +, their missions regularly ran past 24 hrs. Upon their return, after the effects wore off, they would take a "no go pill", and they would sleep for 18+ hours." statements with it that make it a violation.

That sounds like operation details to me. It really doesn't matter what you think because I know so. I was briefed on all this just like the pilot was.

Weird lately, people seem to be attacking me out of the blue. Why would I lie about this?

Its probably modafinil actually. It allows people to stay up for 48+ hours with out getting sleepy or drowsy at all, but it is not a hard stimulant awakeness like meth, it is just a people don't get tired on it awakeness, and it keeps alertness up, like you are at the peak of your day for 48 hours. I would suspect that over meth: it will not cloud peoples judgement while they are flying or get them high or strung out, but will allow them to stay up for two days with out any of the negative effects of amphetamines.

Its not modafinil, although there is talk about switching to that based on those facts.

how is it that if terrorists, or anyone else, know that we give amphetamines to our soldiers, it will somehow lead to our downfall. please explain
