Around my house we have something known as the 10 second rule. With young kids, food dropping happens multiple times a day. So, the food is still fair game if it's picked up within 10 seconds. Oh, I examine it first, to make sure there isn't anything on it, but then I give it to them. Hey, you know how much food we would throw out otherwise? A LOT. However, if it was dropped on the street floor, I'd just leave it. Home is one thing, but on the street is another. Oh, and I chose the wrong choice on the votes. I was thinking about the question being in general, like if you drop food somewhere, do you still eat it. But if we're simply talking about the street, then heck no.
ya i wouldnt eat it either. I mean really, just think, someone could have pissed there, or thrown up there, or even got shot or hurt there. I do the 5 second rule with my youngest daughter but like HCM, i examine it first.
Yeah we use the 5 second rule indoors at home, or at grandma's it could stay all day and we'd still eat it- her home is a shrine, maybe if it fell at the park on the grass, its ok too BUT ....... a city sidewalk ....ugh! Never! People piss out there, and hork, and who knows what else. NEVER!!!
If I lived somewhere where I had to worry about if somebody had been shot wher I stood, I'd relinquish ownership of my beloved butty as soon as it left my hand! Since I live in a not-so-bad place, I'd enjoy knowing that birds would fest on it, but my actual reason would be that I just wouldn't want to be seen icking it up!
I would eat it if it dropped on the floor in my house but if it dropped outside then i wouldn't touch it.
on the street? Nuh-uh, streets are filthy round here at home within a few seconds and dust er off, yup
I Once Read... That the Floor of Your Home Has more Germs Than Outside on the Street... ... A Random Fact I Remember...
yeah, but they're my germs... I deal with 'em every day (heard somewheres that holy water is dirtier than money, in most places... scary eh?)
Well, if you aren't ever exposed to any germs, when you do come in contract with something, you'll pick it up easily. I learned this lesson from my oldest son going to kindergarten. He had been home with me for 5 years, no daycares, no preschools, and rarely ever a sitter. So when he started school, OMG, we were getting sick so much at first, I didn't know how we'd last the year! But after a while, it seemed that his resistance built up and he was able to fight off illness, wasn't getting sick even when the other kids in his class were, which was definitely a good thing!
