Haters gonna hate, and how many of you so far are the type that will rubbish this song but then crap on about Floyd Not that I'm going to defend the 80s, they did suck beartits, but this ones my fav ballad from the era
The 80s were one of the best, most creative decades for music. The problem is, people base "80s music" on the crap heard in the OP, which isn't a bad mainstream pop song, but doesn't represent a fraction of the music from that decade which doesn't get played on the radio today. I hate it when people limit themselves to one decade or one genre. It just seems narrowminded to me, especially when I know most of these people haven't much of the music.
"True" could be a serious contender for worst song of the decade. It sounds like a Saturday Night Live parody of a pop ballad. I can easily visualize Andy Sandberg doing a fake video for it, doing exaggerated dance moves in a tuxedo.
Not me, dude. Every real music lover knows it is Hawkwind where it's at! :cheers2: I acknowledge that. It is just the rough/global image of 80's music that sucks. That and of course it is easy for me to shit allover the 80's because I pretty much don't like anything in the most profilic genres of that decade, like new wave, hair metal, (post)punk, shit like U2 etc. etc.
Here's a good parody of a quintessentially bad 80's song! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsgWUq0fdKk"]Total Eclipse of the Heart Literal Video Version - YouTube
The parody vocalist sounds better than Bonnie Tyler did on the original. You know where Bonnie got her trademark sound? From unsuccessful throat surgery! Heart had one of my favorite power ballads of the eighties, but the sucky video almost ruined it for me. Besides the bad hair and overdone, tasteless visuals, they made it appear that Nancy Wilson was doing quite a bit of the electric guitar work. Truth is, almost everything you hear is Howard Leese, including the first time he got to play a solo on a big hit record. There's an old video clip in the VH1 archives from a Wilson sisters photo shoot for one of their mid-eighties albums, where one sister says to the other, "I hate doing this. We look ridiculous. I feel stupid." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Cw1ng75KP0"]Heart - Alone - YouTube
"Alone" packs a lot of emotional power, but it's also a song you can easily get tired of if you hear it a lot. REO Speedwagon's best effort is a bit more elegant and understated, making it a classic that I'll still enjoy 20 years from now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teyQNG_LEgk"]Reo Speedwagon - Keep On Loving You (Video official restored) - YouTube
Yeah, Kevin Cronin is a really sweet guy. Always has been. Unfortunately, he hasn't aged as well as the song has.
