So, I was getting these bumps all over my fingers and toes for a while now... and they would start out itchy and painful, and eventually go away with in a few weeks/a month.... And they kept coming back, so I went to the dermatoligst.... and he diagnosed me with Pernio [a.k.a. Chilblains] which is caused by poor circulation, and your extremities becoming far too cold.... But, because of that, now he advised me to wear socks, pretty much ...all the time, and gloves as much as possible, until the weather is warmer, and until I've been quit smoking for a while, and my circulation is better, again.... I'm so upset!!!! All my beautiful callouses are going to wear away now And no more barefooting until summer!!!!!! *cry* This is so LAAAAME!!! And, that's my rant.
I hope you feel better. Hopefully there will be some warmer days coming up pretty soon where you can go barefoot again. I wish ya the best.
Aw, feel better. At least it's not something that will prevent you from barefooting ever again (now THAT would suck ) And good luck quitting smoking, that's one habit worth kicking. (Unless we're talking occassional joint that is )
Sorry to hear about your condition Apples, unable to bo barefoot? that IS a bummer. Giving up smoking may help restore your circulation, worthy of helping you get back to barefooting, yet even better for your health all around.
quitting smoking will help a bunch. one thing that is overlooked is sweat, so socks and gloves can make the problem worse. if you're the type that sweats alot, wearing socks and gloves will retain moisture which ruins the insulation value of the item you're wearing and actually acts like a heat sink, eventually make you cold everywhere. most times foods that increase metabolism, like red pepper and other spicy things help your circulation. also keeping your feet and hands dry and comfy, so barefeet might be better if you sweat alot. when your feet are overdressed for the surrounding humidity and temperature, they sweat, when you stop moving the circulation and heat is reduced and the moisture starts pulling heat from your body, eventually the body will protect itself by slowing bloodflow to the extremities. if you must wear shoes, socks, and gloves, use powder or anti-perspirant( yea it sucks) and change them really often. i've had the same water blister problems for years, and not wearing shoes, even when its cold, really helped, only time i get them now is if i wear gloves and socks when it's not cold enough. personally i'd wear my shoes even less if my doctor told me i need to wear them more, sounds like he's setting you up to be a repeat customer. if you keep your core body parts warmer, your body will increase circulation to the colder extremities to help keep a balance. there is also a slight chance they can be stress related, mine got worst one semester due to some really stressful classses.
Yeah... I quit smoking about two weeks ago...two weeks, tomorrow. But, I was reading on all my quit references, that any existing sort of bumps, blisters, cuts, etc...can act up during the detox portion of your quit... Do you have any idea how long it will take someone who's only smoked for 4 years to detox? I have a feeling that's already happening, because the little bumps were starting to go away, and then about 2 days ago I woke up and they itched like crazy again. Thanks for all your help, too... I will probably try the powder idea first. My hands and feet always had poor circulation, before I started smoking...so that probably did not help, when I started smoking. I remember when I was about 14, I went to an ex-boyfriend's family gathering, and when I was meeting his family and stuff, shaking their hands...every single one of them without fail, shrieked and were like "Oh darling! Your little hands are so cold!" And..this was before the cigarettes. Anyway, if stress can be a factor at all, I'm sure that's part of it.... I have been under a GREAT deal of stress lately. I haven't felt relaxed and genuinely happy in over a month, probably. :& There are a lot of things going on, and I don't feel like I ever get the "me" time I need.... *sigh* Not to mention, I have panic disorder, and I've been getting panic attacks quite frequently lately. The last time I got these... I tried meditating often.... they went away sooner, than these are, so maybe the meditation helped, because it reduced my stress level. I just haven't had any time to even MEDITATE lately... But anyway! Thank you so much ...that was one of the most helpful things I've heard so far
Youre welcome, I wanted to say something to make you feel better considering everything youve been going through. I hope you feel better.
Im glad you quit smoking. Im sure youll feel alot better now. I've got cold hands sometimes too and I dont even smoke, I think it has to do with poor circulation. Anyways youre a lovely person so im sure lots of people are gonna like you dispite your sometimes cold hands At least you can come here and feel good and take some of that stress away. You can always have your "me" time here. Yeah meditation helps sometimes, i've never really done it myself but ive heard it works for some people. Oh yeah, youre welcome, im sure everybody here is more than glad to help a sweet person like you. We all want ya to live a long and happy life and just be yourself
Apples, first off, you're gorgeous. But so sorry to hear about your condition. I know how difficult it would be for any of us in this forum to have to be forced to wear shoes and socks - I know I couldn't handle that real well. Congratulations and best of luck on staying smoke-free. It's not just good for your health, it's also great for your love life - making out with a cigarette mouth is nasty. I don't have much advice I can give you, because I've always been more on the warm side with my body temperature, but have you ever thought of taking yoga? It combines a good solid cardio and strengthening workout with meditation - that might take care of your stress levels, AND you circulation in one go. Best of all, it is done barefoot - and most yoga studios/classes take place in a warm studio because you need to be in loose, light clothing. There's even the popular variation "Hot Yoga" which is done in temps in the 90's. I've been involved with yoga since around 1998, and I swear it has helped me tremendously with stress management and its as meditative as you want it to be. At any rate, I hope you are feeling better real soon, and can get back to a less stressful life, barefoot and happy as you deserve to be.
Thanks, EVERYONE for you suggestions AND support And, yeah I thought of taking yoga... I really want to. Hehe, I actually used to watch a yoga program on television and try to learn it, but I'm not home in the mornings anymore to do it Maybe I'll check around to see if any gyms or anything offer classes around here Thanks again, everyone
