Where does it all come from? It is just crazy how fast stuff accumulates, especially in my tiny, shoe box of an apartment. My new job has inspired me to re-organize my home, get rid of some things, maybe get some new furniture. I am just baffled by how much stuff we have, and how even after throwing a ton of stuff away, it still feels cluttered in our little, 620 square foot home.

DVD's for example. I have two huge black bins full of DVD's. I am proud of my movie collection, which I have spent years building. It is rare now a days that I will purchase a new DVD (unless I find a great movie on sale for cheap somewhere), but I definitely don't want to get rid of the DVD's I have. The bins take up a fair amount of space in the office/dining room though.

How many towels and blankets does one couple need? Ahhh, just so much stuff!!!

Clearly this project is going to take a while...I have time though, as my husband is away on business all week.

How much clutter/stuff is in your home? How often to you get rid of things, do a big purge of stuff, ect.? Is anyone here into minimalist living?

I was upset with the water damage, but It was a blessing and a cleansing .. just so much stuff to throw away and now that its all coming back together ,, new carpeting very little furniture. it feels so open and free.. I dont miss the old tv sets that took up 1/2 the floor, big ugly couch, spare beds all gone.. now tv mounts on wall like a painting. Its so more open and cleaner.

I would be a pack rat but my wife abhors "clutter" so we spring clean at least twice a year. When watching real estate porn if the buyers say there isn't enough storage she yells at the tv "you have too much shit". Still far from minimal but not too bad.

Omg I know right. I had such a frustrating time recently with my kitchen. And my dining table. I literally just pushed everything off it to clean and I had no less than 9 random moisturizing creams on that table. The kitchen? Omg. The bench becomes a storage bench for everything that comes in front door. So. I made a promise with miss and I that it doesn't happen again. Like our last... 10 promises. :d we'll learn one day.

I mean most times we are clean and neat but then other times, and it's not the whole house just random spots like the table or bench but man, and I can't even push myself to throw stuff out. I say if I haven't used or looked at it in a year, bin it. But then I look at it and remember why I have it in the first place. :D

Two women can collect some random stuff at times.

Yeah I seem to accumulate lots of stuff at home.
I've probably got 5+ wardobes of clothes. I had five computers at home and all the associated stuff. Then there's mountains of books and all sorts of shit. Statements from probably 20 banks (business and personal). Then there's furniture, decorations etc

In the past, I've hated binning stuff. With old work files, I think "wow this took weeks but most of it is going in the bin with just a little bit being kept". So I think about how things can be transient in general in life.

At one point my clutter was pretty bad. But now I'm like a different person. I've got rid of a lot of rubbish. And the feng shui/whatever feels much more fresh and vibrant. Apparently throwing away too much also has its effects, acc to feng shui theory. In that you are inclined to break more ties with your past.

DO NOT LOOK IN MY GARAGE! Let alone the storage unit attached to it... And just fucking ignore all those windows out in the storage unit on the back of the barn/shed/whatever.

I do have an excuse though, even if it's a shitty excuse. When I bought this place it needed work, still does. So I bought what I could find, cheap, for the remodel while the insurance money lasted. Most of it is from the ReStore, so it's buy it now or it's gone forever. I just haven't gotten to many of these jobs yet so things like sinks/cabinets/paint/etc. are clogging the garage and storage. (and kitchen, second bedroom, sunroom, fuck.... stuff is everywhere)

yeah, sometimes i have to go through and get rid of stuff. especially my computer desk, it tends to accumulate various papers, printouts of things that are looked at once and never again.

This is exactly what I am going for. Is a bit of a process though, to make a 620 square foot apartment feel open. I'll get there though.

Do you have lots of plants in your house?

Paper just seems to pile up so quickly!!!! So do disc's, it seems? I just turfed probably 12 - 15 disc's of old pictures of my ex and I, and various trips we went on. We dated for 5 years and travelled a lot, so the cd's with pictures accumulated quickly, and have since been in a box for the last 4 years. I don't see any need to keep stuff like that.

I love my books....and clothing, well, I just donated about 6 bags of clothing the other month..I donated them all to victims of an apartment fire. Usually I save the clothing and do a swap every season with my girlfriends, which results in me lugging stuff home that I think I will wear, but usually never do.

ive so much junk that i have to keep trailers and overflow vehicles at a friends place

i also have a 48 foot transport trailer parked at a farm for storage purposes full of items (parking fee for that place is really cheap and well worth it)

I don't tend to accumulate much stuff. I don't like too much junk around the house. If I haven't used it in a year, it's outta here!

We purge on a need to basis. We've moved four times, so we've jettisoned stuff each time. I miss my old Sci fi book collection, but it got too big. Tossed a bunch of Frisbees...I was collecting them for awhile, still have a box somewhere with an old Pluto Platter or two in it.

Got rid of all my C-64s, Ataris, and Amigas and associated software a while back. Still have a box of computer cables, keyboards, power supplies and junk like that. My wife cut down her Autumn Leaf plate collection.

Sold most of my album collection for $150.00 couple years ago.
I'm thinking of selling my two motorcycles but I made the mistake of starting one yesterday...sounded nice.

I should get rid of some PC games like Populous and Ghost Recon,,like, when am I ever going to play those again?

Sold my Oxyacetylene welding rig awhile back, that was a mistake...but I replaced it with a metal lathe that I don't use so I broke even on that one.

I just got a box of 50's and 60's Popular Science and Mechanics recently, so they're taking up space in my workshop, computer room and night stand....but I like to read about all the inventions that never caught on.

My wife and I call it "little shit," and we have a lot of it.

It makes me want to pile it all up, break it all with a sledge hammer, then light it all on fire.

For those of you who are married, what did you do with all the wedding cards you received from people? I have a huge stack of them, not sure if I should keep them or purge them......

You got rid of all of your music?

I don't have any CD's myself...all my music is electronic. I lent my book of cd's to a girl shortly before her and I had a falling out, and I never got them back.
