I've been working here for 5 years. My job anniversary date just passed on the 14th of this month. I sit in the front of the building at the visitor-sign-in desk. I've gotta say, this is the favorite job I've ever had so far. To some it seems like a "creepy" job. Crazies are everywhere. Rapists, murderers, you name it. I find myself oddly comfortable in this type environment. I treat everyone here equally as long as they show me respect. I don't look down on them for things they have done in the past. I just try to make their day better. Occasionally I'll have a little laugh at some things they say or do..but I know I've been close to being on the other side of those doors of this place, so I am not much different. I'm not a murderer or rapist, and I don't have schizophrenia.. but I am a little "off". Who isn't though? Being abnormal is what makes this life fun.

Interactions between people- the odd ways in which humans conduct themselves-the things people can do and/or believe are truly fascinating. I enjoy reading Ann Rule's crime narratives and wonder how people can do the things they do to others and consider their actions to be acceptable. I guess sick is sick and evil is evil. Or is it the same?

I worked at a mental hospital for 2 years and I absolutely loved it. I must have been involved in over 2000 code oranges which meant someone going into restraints. I also had to respond to several code purples which meant someone eloped from the hospital and the chase was on.

I’d hop into the van and track them down with my tactical team of mental health workers. We couldn’t force them into the van once they left the hospital grounds but we were very persuasive. :2thumbsup:

This place has no tolerance for open minded people, good luck.

They didn’t like it but it was necessary for their own protection and the protection of other patients and staff.

Who had declared them 'sick' and by what standards. Keep in mind that the American standard of sanity/normalcy was set by Executive Order/Declaration of nun other than Tricky Dick Nixon when it was revealed Democrat Tom Eagleton had suffered a break down in the past and Nixon rushed to press to declare he was 'normal'!

I spent a few years with the Haight Ashbury Switchboard Crisis Team and I doubt there's a mental hospital wilder than the Haight back in the day.

It sure is a different kind of world. It changed my view on multiple things. For one, it made me appreciate my life much more. About 2 weeks before I started my job there.. I was in the crisis evaluation center in the building. I was 16 and being a teenager. I had emotional issues like most of us do and threatened my mother I would hurt myself if she wouldn't let me drive across the country to see my internet boyfriend at the time. But, it turned out well. They released me within a couple of hours and I went on with my life. Still... it was very awkward when, during the first few weeks at my job there, I passed by the doctors who evaluated me that night in the hospital. I had to make myself laugh to get through it :D

i was in the psych ward before, met both cool and crazy people..This one guy was really crazy and scary so i had to confine myself to the room for most of the time. But since my room was next to the hallway where their was the only walking room he passed by it screaming nonsense....

The psych ward is one crazy place
