anyone here ski/snowboard? i am trying to find cheap, fun places that are snowboarder friendly. it is getting hard to find good prices because of climate change i suppose. dunno if anyone here skis, but any suggestions would be awesome.
mount rose the individual lift passes (heavenly, kirkwood, squaw) are retarded, but the season passes are reasonable, and they're ALL snowboarder friendly and it's the sierra nevadas. so it's awesome.
You have to check out Park City, Utah. You fly into Salt Lake and it's about a 30-45 min drive into the mountains. It's a small little western town with a main street, and lots of good places to eat or drink. Good nightlife. But one of the coolest things is they have a town lift. So you just leave your lodge in the morning, walk down main street to the town lift, and go up the mountain. I'm a snowboarder and had a great time there, twice. Also went to Snowbird, which is nearby. There is also The Canyons, and Alta, which only allow skiing though. Fuck that place anyway. If you like to hit the pow, there are plenty of bowls at Snowbird and Park City. Jupiter Bowl is badass. I can't even begin to say how incredible the riding is out there. Maybe I can find some pics and scan them. Here is main st in Park City: I also really want to check out Jackson Hole, Wyoming, but haven't had the chance yet. Breckenridge in Colorado is nice. Whistler in British Columbia is probably the best conditions in North America. The Tahoe area in California is really nice too.
i just checked, it is $75/day which is pretty average. mt. hood tix are $40-60... pretty good deal. my friend was just in vail and tickets were almost $100/day (during december) !! but i have a friend who works there so hopefully i can get half off...
awesome! i will check all those out, i have heard great things about tahoe and park city before, and i love breckenridge. we should be driving all the way up to BC so maybe i could check out whistler if it is that great... i would love to find a good bowl, maybe with night boarding... dean is just learning to snowboard, so maybe that could be fun... god i can't stop thinking about it, i long for the mountains :hat:
Well, there are no bowls open at night that I know of. Usually resorts just keep a few runs open after dark that are close to the base lodge. For example, to get to the bowls at Park City it takes 4 different lifts just to get out there. People would be getting lost and it's just too dangerous. When you get to the big resorts and go out to the bowls like that, my advice is make sure you have a pack with plenty of water. You get dehydrated easily hiking the rims of those things at 12,000 ft. Hope you have fun, it's a great experience :cheers2: Here is a pic of Jupiter from google
hmm bummer, but i see what you're saying. park city seems like an ideal place for what we have in mind... and yes, water is an essential for me all the time but especially at those altitudes, i always carry a day pack on the slopes, it is very much worth it. anyway, i will probably be bothering you with a few questions because you are selling me on PC or rather it's selling itself.
I think you will love it there, personally I cant wait to go back a 3rd time. And feel free to ask away with the questions, one run you definitely should check out if you go is Thaynes Canyon. It runs from the base of Jupiter Bowl about 3 miles or so to the base of another mountain. It's super chill and laid back, lots of fun banks and little kickers on the sides of the trail the whole way. It was just so much fun for me, coming from the east.
i'm looking at a map, thaynes canyon looks like a hell of a run, i love long ass blues like that where the incline is just right to build up some speed.
mmmmm, i love snowboarding down the mountain with my jacket unzipped while smoking a blunt in the night time with my cock out getting sucked by the lift operator.
