So I wasn't too surprised when Obama hooked wall street up, he's part of the Harvard establishment that gives everyone the hookups...except me, and you, and you...at the expense of the rest of us.

But the snooping is over the top.

C'mon people, we don't need to intercept foreign leaders' cell phone conversations, not cool.

    Idiots.

(NEWSER) – US officials (though unnamed ones) have for the first time owned up to tapping the phones of 35 world leaders—an admission made in the course of issuing a denial: They tell the Wall Street Journal that President Obama had no knowledge of that monitoring until after the Edward Snowden leaks this year. Further, those leaks led Obama to request a review of surveillance activities; he ultimately ordered an end to the snooping on some—but not all—of the leaders after that summertime review, according to the officials. The Journal doesn't know which leaders remain on the list, though it notes that Angela Merkel is definitely not being monitored, and that those who are still under surveillance have not been removed because they are providing useful intelligence. Is there a difference between U.S. officials and NSA officials? And I'm asking you to post the names of the officials.

    I think ...
    NSA Director: General Keith Alexander
...has owned up to Angel Merkel.

The White House/Obama made a statement regarding France...

And a 'senior NSA official' the rest.

Nobody seems to be denying it...

Surely none of this is news ? What about Echelon, known about since the 1980s ?

ECHELON, originally a code-name, is now used in global media and in popular culture to describe a signals intelligence (SIGINT) collection and analysis network operated on behalf of the five signatory states to the UKUSA Security Agreement (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States, referred to by a number of abbreviations, including AUSCANNZUKUS and Five Eyes).

It has also been described as the only software system which controls the download and dissemination of the intercept of commercial satellite trunk communications.

It was created to monitor the military and diplomatic communications of the Soviet Union and its Eastern Bloc allies during the Cold War in the early 1960s. By the end of the 20th century, the system referred to as "ECHELON" had evolved beyond its military/diplomatic origins, to also become "... a global system for the interception of private and commercial communications."

The system has been reported in a number of public sources. One of the earliest reports to describe the program, code-named "ECHELON," was the 1988 article, "Somebody's listening" by Duncan Campbell in the New Statesman.

The program's capabilities and political implications were investigated by a committee of the European Parliament during 2000 and 2001 with a report published in 2001, and by author James Bamford in his books on the National Security Agency of the United States.

The European Parliament stated in its report that the term ECHELON is used in a number of contexts, but that the evidence presented indicates that it was the name for a signals intelligence collection system. The report concludes that, on the basis of information presented, ECHELON was capable of interception and content inspection of telephone calls, fax, e-mail and other data traffic globally through the interception of communication bearers including satellite transmission, public switched telephone networks (which once carried most Internet traffic) and microwave links.

Bamford describes the system as the software controlling the collection and distribution of civilian telecommunications traffic conveyed using communication satellites, with the collection being undertaken by ground stations located in the footprint of the downlink leg.

I guarantee you we aren't the only ones doing this, even among our "friends". We just got caught/had a leak. That is why I find all the outrage hilarious.

I just thought today over the appropriation habits of diplomats and leaders of nations. It's absolute these days publicized wealth and money like Donald Trump's is more influential than privately respected dollars and savings like the socialist, David Suzuki's then.

Well, the good thing about this is that people no longer have to wonder about how well the president is informed about shit going on in government agencies that he disapproves of.

They choose to remain unnamed. However:

WASHINGTON -- The White House and State Department signed off on surveillance targeting phone conversations of friendly foreign leaders, current and former U.S. intelligence officials said Monday, pushing back against assertions that President Obama and his aides were unaware of the high-level eavesdropping.

Professional staff members at the National Security Agency and other U.S. intelligence agencies are angry, these officials say, believing the president has cast them adrift as he tries to distance himself from the disclosures by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden that have strained ties with close allies.
