Well, I got the news that I was going to be a father for the 3rd time. I made the decision I did not want any more kids. I had a vasectomy. It was the best $50 (The part my insurance did not pay for) I have ever spent.
the best being the most effective? abstinence of course maintaining it is a whore, we use the pill since my guy wants kids eventually, hence no snipping
After my second child I had a tubaligation, and it is the best decision for me. Worrying about taking a pill, or using condoms is a thing of the past. I am in my 30's, enjoy sex, and don't want to hear the pitter patter of little feet again. If a person is "done" having kids they should consider surgical sterilization. It is by far the cheapest "birth control" on the market. Like the OP stated "it only cost $50" because many insurances cover the procedures. Mine was free, but most insurances charge around $250 for women. You do not need to worry about "running out" or missing a pill. Yes, pregnancies can happen but it is not very common.
Do you know if it happened soon after the vasectomy? I know a lot of guys who have had kids after getting a vasectomy. Usually it happens within the first year after the surgery. Apparently a man is still not sterile right after the surgery. It can take several months before he is and even then it is only about 99% effective, so there is always that 1% chance.
My wife uses pills, but always worries that they make her fat, since they contain lots of hormones. Pills work fine for us.
a little, first you get a type of novacaine shot (yes in the scrotum) then you feel pretty much nothing. they give you painkillers for afterwards. i was happy i did it, after 3 kids, we were done also. no side problems 10 years later everything still works great!
Oh yeah - mine hurt like HELL. I got mine after my second and third sons were born. I walked around like Gary Cooper for two weeks because of the swelling, and for about 2 months afterwards it did get sore whenever I had a serious erection. On the brighter side, not having to think about birth control really does put a new perspective on things. And yes, I have had my sperm count done every two years to make sure those little tubules didnt grow back together. Maybe I just like jerking off in a little cup?
We had two beautiful kids, and my honey got snipped in Oct. I got pregnant the following April. He had not confirmed it worked. We learned quickly many family & friends had #3 post-v. Now we have 4 - all healthy and great so far - though I am an overwhelmed nut ..... The 2nd surgery does not sound as easy as the first. 1st was 1 hour, easy, out-patient. This time is a hospital/anesthestia trip. Still, more easy for the guy than the girl. Happening later this month, b/c we really do not want 5!!! I'll let you know how it goes.
pull and pray. it sucks to shell out $40+ dollars for the morning after pill but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Not all girls are on birth control and mistakes do happen with us guys haha.
The best contraception is not having sex at all - some people may think this is prudish, but irrespective of your personal belief it still IS the safest. Vasectomy would perhaps be second - although in rare cases the person can still make lots of babies Sometimes the tubes grow again. Then there's condoms, which is about 99% effective. The worst/U] contraception method is pulling out (it only works in a porno ) because pre-ejaculate (or precum or Cowper's gland secretion) can still contain trace amounts of sperm which is enough to make a girl pregnant. After I have one or two kids, I'm getting snipped. I hope my future wife will get her tubes tied as well, so we're double covered. Until then, I'm keeping it wrapped unless she's on the pill.
My hubby had a vesectomy three months ago. He will be taking the *ahem* cup in this week to be tested. It was teh best decision for us. I was on the pill for years and came off after realizing that it messed with my emotional well being. I also had an IUD and it caused me to have a yeast infection for almost 7 months. We have two children and after a mini scare, realized that we are happy wtih our two and should likely have teh surgey. It hurt him tons. He was hugely swollen, but everything is just peachy now. =)
Personally I am happy with using natural family planning and pulling out. I am very against surgery (for myself) unless it is needed to save my life.
I used to be happy with the pill because it made my periods bearable, but I can no longer take hormones because of my migraines... and now that I am not on the pill anymore I feel better in many ways. Emotionally and physically and as well, I feel bad that amphibians are being deformed because of the hormones that are getting into watersheds.
