Yeah, so I just had my 4 wisdom teeth pulled.

I've got a lot of weed staring me in the face, screaming 'SMOKE ME!' I'm just wondering if it is safe to toke? I had the surgery 3 days ago, they had to make incisions in the gums to expose the teeth, then they pulled the teeth, and stitched the gums back up.

So I still have some stitches in my gums. Would smoking be a bad idea? I've heard it could lead to a dry-socket, which is pretty painful and could require more surgery...

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks :)

It might irritate it, I'm not sure how much though or if it would hurt enough to make it not worth it.

I smoked cigs and weed after I had a root canal and I was fine. I didn't have any stitches though, so you may want to look at some official shit on a dental/medical site.

    Hmm, thanks for the input.

I might just hold off- I dont want to fuck anything up. Buts its so hard when you got a good amount of chronic ass nugget and a bong staring you down :p

Don't do it. The act of sucking in the smoke can dislodge the blood clot where your teeth were extracted exposing bone or nerves causing lots of pain. It can also slow down the healing process.

Hold off for a few more days. Or call your dentist or oral surgeon back and ask when you can start smoking cigarettes again without the risk of dry sockets.

bahhh, I smoked weed the day after my wisdom teeth removal surgery (and every day after).. And the day after that, I ate a subway sandwich. No dry sockets, no swelling, no discoloration/bruises ... nothin! I am just spectacular. I was so messed up on drugs during that time. Vicodin and weed is dreamy together.

smoke it... rather, *inhale the stuff. Don't suck on whatever.. I wouldn't recommend a joint or anything that would be hard to smoke from.

When smoking, no matter what, you're creating a vacuum in your mouth. That could rip open some stitches or wounds, even if the stitches have fallen out, the wound might still split open. And even though pot is a painkiller in some cases, when baked, that kind of pain would only be amplified.

I told my dentist I smoked pot. He said exactly that. He said wait a week, preferably two (i waited one), before smoking again.

Okay, but wouldn't breathing pose just as much of a risk then?

When you breathe in through your mouth, aren't you creating a vaccum? As long as I take the hits slowly, and let the smoke gently down into my lungs, wouldn't it be okay? So long as I'm not sucking down a massive hit with all the force of my lungs, it seems like it should be alright.

I'm testing it with air now... I'm sucking lots of air into my lungs through my mouth, and its not ripping open my stitches, or dislodging any blood clots in the extraction sites... As long as the smoke doesn't irritate it, I should be good then, right?

Don't do it man. Everybody is different and what doesn't affect others could mess you up bad. Use this time as a mandatory break, and veiw it as a good thing. Everybody needs a break once in a while and you will get higher off less weed when it's all over.

    Just keep those pills goin'

Heh, I wish I could, the hydros lasted me like two days.

I didnt really even abuse them that badly... but for fucks sake they only gave me 15 of them, and no refills.

I tried drinking the other night, and I took a shot which felt like somebody was stabbing red-hot knives into my gums... so yeah, drinking is out of the question.

When smoking with a joint, usually you have to inhale a bit strong to properly get a good toke. Breathing is different, it is a slow toke and a bigger hole. When breathing, your mouth is wide open (compared to when toking).

If there is too much of a vacuum, you'll feel the stitches as they pop. I believe it'd be a very painful stinging feeling, followed by a warm oozing sensation (the blood). So you'll know when something goes wrong.

Maybe with a bowl (pipe, not bong, since you'd have to pull slightly harder). Since toking, your lips are smalling which is the problem with the vacuum. A slow toke will take care of that.

Or you can challenge yourself to wait a week or two after the surgery.

That's why I say don't smoke a joint. Take easy hits from a nice piece.

Cool it with the hard suckin--I know how you all love it so.

We're not worried about stitches ripping through his gums, we're worried about the blood clot getting sucked out, if it's still really weak.

Just smoke your shit if you're gonna. Take it easy. Though I wouldn't be eatin a sandwich if I were you. hah

    I concure.

Once you begin feeling a sharp pain near the stitches, the wounds might be opening, so take it easy.
