(I posted this in the wrong place before. ><) I was wondering if you could set off smoke detectors with pot smoke. My cousin who is a total stone-head says you can't, but I don't think that's true. Every time I smoke in my new apartment, the fan is on, I'm in the bathroom with the door covered by towels and the window open. I'm sure the neighbors can smell it, but that's not what I'm worried about. I just don't want the smoke detector to go off. So will it?
I think taking the batteries out would be a bad thing... So as a precaution should I just stick to my bathroom method?
yes you can set off a smoke detector with pot smoke or even a cigarette. I know detectors in most us college dorms can be set off by cigarettes. However, the odds of setting one off by smoking in a private residence is slim unless of course you sit on top of a ladder under the detector.
Yes you can. You could set a smoke detector off with your hand if you tried hard enough. Smoke detectors work by having a [very weak] alpha radiation emitter giving out radiation and there is a receiver which picks up the radiation. Now if something stops the radioactive particles getting to the receiver (e.g smoke, your hand, a piece of paper or whatever) the workings of the alarm detect this and the alarm sounds. Clever no? Don't believe me? Get a Geiger counter and put it to your smoke alarm. It will tell you that it is dishing out radiation.
Sometimes my toaster sets of my smoke alarm. It depends where the smoke alarm is in relation to where you are smoking and how much smoke your giving off, so its different for everyone.
I have one outside my door, i used to be paranoid, if you realy wanna find out, when your rents are out just smoke under it/blow smoke on it and find out if it sets it off.

Whenever I lived in a dorm room, I would just put a plastic bag over the smoke detector, but I don't think I ever smoked enough to set it off anyhow.
You CAN. I have personal experiance with this. My desk is right under a smoke detector in my room, and i forgot to turn on the fan once, and my door was closed, and i set it off at 1 in the morning. My parents flipped out. Anyway, as long as you have a fan on you should be fine. I smoke in the same place all the time, i just make sure the fan is on now. Its hard to do, but it can be set off by weed.
If for whatever reason I had to smoke inside a residence (volcano broke, etc) then I would blow the exhale smoke through my homemade carbon filter. You can find instructions on google or send me a PM.
