i wonder what happened to the commercials that spoke against ciggerates that went
"TOBACCO: TUMOR CAUSING, TEETH STAINING, SMELLY PUKY HABIT"

my favorite one was when a couple were in the theatre watchin a scary movie and the girl goes to take a drink from the cup and when she does she takes a big drink of her boyfriends tobacco chew spit... haha it was gross but it was funny

What in the hell? That is sick. I never saw those, but they sound entertaining.

I hate thinking about the fact that millions of dollars are being WASTED on television anti-smoking campaigns. I simply don't believe they work. If people are not turned away from smoking by the disgusting taste, the disgusting smell, the fact that it makes your clothes, hair, breath, car and house reek, and the fact that it is damaging to your health... then no corny-ass t.v. commercial is going to do it. Sorry.

Sure it does. If you KNOW, and have no reason to not believe, that something is bound to fail, why do it? You're just wasting resources, time, and money. Why spend MILLIONS of dollars that are needed elsewhere on what is known to be a doomed project that will not accomplish its goal?

People will smoke or they won't. It's as simple as that. Dumb ones will, smart ones won't.

There hasn't been an "ignorance" excuse for starting smoking for over 40 years! The last people who could have claimed, "We didn't know it was harmful" died of lung cancer before 1995, I think. (And even they can't give me that "we didn't know" bullshit: what the fuck did you THINK it was doing to you when it made you hack and cough and vomit when you first tried it? Help you?! Strengthen you?!)

When I see a young-ish person smoking, I just think, "How dumb are you!? They have goaded you into spending an absurd amount of money for something that is bad for you and makes you gross! You should feel like a fucking sucker, but instead you think you look cool?!" It tells me that this is a person who does not think with a good brain; whose decision-making faculties are tainted by image, and a desperate desire to fit in and be accepted. When these desires override what one knows is good, there is a problem in that person's mind.

Like, if you knew that you would be fired from your job, and then lose your place to live, because you just felt like playing hooky from work one day, you'd be a fool to not go in, right? I mean, just for one day of relaxing, when all you have to do is wait til the weekend? Well, smoking in spite of knowing how dumb and harmful it is is just like making that decision to not go in to work.
