Look at these disasters!!!! Two great mishaps that happened in the same year of 1986 one in the month of January 28, 1986 resulting in the deaths of seven American astronauts when the Challenger space shuttle exploded and the other in the month of April 25 when the Chernobyl nuclear reactor in the Ukraine has a meltdown, spewing out radioactive clouds whose toxic effects will be felt for generations. Another accident that took place in the same year 1989 one on March 24 when the Exxon Valdez tanker runs ashore, spilling oil across pristine Alaskan waters and land that lead to killing countless wild animals. It is considered that sleep deprivation could have contributed to such major accidents.
Couldnt agree more on the hazards of sleep deprivation! Another fact I found: -You die faster if you're sleeping less than 80% of the time you are in bed. This was the result of a study done over 19 years to find out if people who take longer than 30 minutes to fall asleep would die faster than those who fall asleep easily (Journal of Clinical Psychiatry 2005).
Die faster?? Under any circumstance? So if you didn't get enough sleep and you got cancer, you'd die faster than someone that was decapitated? Please elaborate.
its pritty well known that driving while dreprived of sleep causes you to have delayed reactions the same as if you were drinking alcohol. lack of sleep has been proved to afect driving in 3 areas It impairs coordination It causes longer reaction times It impairs judgment our govenment take driving while sleep deprived very seriously. if driving a vehicle after 18 hours of been awake can seriously impair driving abbility then i can quite belive that some disasters like the ones pointed out above could be caused by lack of sleep. its quite well known that the mind & body need sleep to work to its best ability.
