This is a weird book. It's supposed to be really good and parts of it are. I don't like the parts about the war, however. Those bore me a bit. Pilgrim's alleged abduction is interesting though.

I'm almost finished with it so hopefully I'll grow to like it as I continue to finish reading it.

Has anybody else read it? What are your thoughts on the book?

It's one of my favorite books. His writing style is hilarious and amazing at the same time. I love the way time and space are portrayed in that book, it has some cool symbols as well. Notice that after anyone in the novel dies he writes "and so it goes"

Kurt vonnegut is like reading a kaleidescope
He would show you the hidden images in the flat and bleak

I still need to read it, especially because my favorite book is Cat's Cradle, also by Vonnegut. (I'm a bokononist!)

I read this book in the late 70's and it was all I could think about for
days afterward. To me it was very profound on a few different levels.

Agreed. It is one of those books where if you connect with it, you can't really speak for a good two hours after you finish it. I just read it a second time on my trip to Germany, right before I visited Dresden. The city is so beautiful, but still has not recovered from the attack. It was a little masochistic, I think, to read it right then, but it added so much depth to my visit, and to the way I think of the novel.

I suggest you do some research on the firebombing in Dresden if you are having trouble getting into the book. It will be incredibley depressing, but help you appreciate the genius of Vonnegut even more.

    Great book....

Sorry to hear the war parts are boring to you. I wish you could talk to my grandmother who was in Dresden when they bombed the hell out of it. So, the story kinda hits close to home for me.

I loved this book. Its really accessible. The writing is very clear, but the plot is insane. Most of all its hilarious. I can't wait to read more of his stuff.

I really like this book, I've read it twice and I liked it just as much, if not more.

I came across a copy of Cat's Cradle for 50 cents at a thrift store while waiting, so I had to pick it up.
I'm not sure what my favorite Vonnegut book is... they're all pretty good.

That's a great one. Kurt Vonnegut's books are ones that grow on me more and more every time I read them, so if you don't like it that much this time around come back to it...I'd also have to recommend Cats Cradle which I just finished for the first time, and God Bless you Mr. Rosewater, which is my favoritest favoritest book ever.

    me to, me to.

whats the deal with Kurt always using Ilium, New York as a place of reference in his books?

One of the most original books on WWII ever written.
