Yeah volumes 3, 5, 7, 8 and 9 of Headswirlers are fairly easy to pick up on Ebay, Gemm and internet based CD mail order. 1, 2, 4 and 6 are almost impossible to find now unfortunetly. There's an interesting mix of better known psych, obscure nuggets and some very cheesy exploitation stuff on those comps.

I don't own Beyond The Calico Wall but I've heard most of the material on it and it is a superb comp, there's also some excellent cuts on the similar titled but unrelated 30 Seconds Before the Calico Wall, worth buying for The Dovers Third Eye track alone.

Another pair of albums worth a mention are the first two Kaleidoscope (US) albums "Side Trips" and "Beacon From Mars" from '67 and '68 respectively,

    [IMG][IMG]

Not exclusively Indian influenced/Sitar laced by any stretch of the imagination, but also throw in a whole load of Middle Eastern strings like Oud in there too and mix it all up with West Coast psych, folk and a bit of country. The tracks "Keep Your Mind Open" from the debut and "Taxim" from the second album are two of the best tracks in the whole of the West Coast psych genre IMHO.

From what I saw no one recommended 'Traffic' they were proberly one of the quite famous bands around 1967 - 1971 or 'The Moody Blues'. I know quite a few new people but obviously you wanted good old 60's and 70's stuff. :p

George Harrison has a ton of Indian/Hindu inspired music. Check out his work after the Beatles, such as his album... All Things Must Pass.

Brilliant song isn't it, the garage psych band We The People did a version of it that appears on the Mindrocker series (volume 5), maybe even better than the CWB version for me, both versions are superb though.

Love dance of the lemmings is a very cool, odd, off kilter beautiful vibe song.

Can I actually make a request?

    [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_v9oQhVE2E

In India this song is considered THEEE anthem of the hippie generation/movement and was extremely 'cutting edge' at the time.
The video is the actual seen from the movie and that they showed a couple kissing in the scene was beyond scandalous.

    Here's a translation:
    Take a toke
    Let the pain be erased
    Say all day and night
    Hare Krishna, hare Ram
What has the world given us?
What have we taken from the world?
Why should we care about everyone else?
What has everyone else done for us?
    Whether we live or die
    We won’t fear anyone
This age will not stop us
    We’ll do whatever we want
    Take a toke
    Let the pain be erased
    Say all day and night
    Hare Krishna, hare Ram

Lyrically the song was even more controversial.
