a silly friend of mine claims that LSD causes birth defects in grandchildren of users. anyone know where she would have heard this, besides word of mouth?
There are no studies which prove LSD causes any sort of birth defects, so this myth is probably about as true as the one that says LSD makes your brain bleed.
Hah, not an other one... I'll add it to my bogus list along with brain bleeding and back cracking. As he said, no test has proven birth defects... Have a good one...
-i swer it was something in the 60s which produced that myth...like the contraceptives caused the birth defects and it was blamed on aciiied?
A lot of it was deliberate anti-LSD propaganda from the 60's, mainly insigated by the US govt. Another one was "LSD causes acne" - which I assume was meant to deter teenagers. There is no evidence of any physical damage to any part of the system from acid. The dangers are purely psychological and legal.
Some of those experiments were horribly carried out, ie not mimicking proper conditions and using far higher concentrations of LSD than you would ever find in the body. There is a reference database on Erowid of a whole boatload of scientific studies, if I have time tomorrow I'll find it and post the link.
If scientists found that out, why the fuck isnt cancer cured. it's bogus, along with every other "Don't do acid or else..." slogans. Do a survay of all children with birth defects, and find out if there grandparents did acid, i know that the score would be even between the non acid doing grandparents.
I would like to once again suggest: www.erowid.com Look under the MYTHS & URBAN LEGENDS section. This is one reference that I believe is related to your inquiry: http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/lsd/lsd_writings3.shtml
Acid is silly. I thought this was going to be a thread featuring a poem you wrote while intoxicated with cosmic energy lol
LSD is actually closely related to a chemical (cant remember the name) produced in the feamele body that is released during the process of birth. Some women claim to have trip-like symptems whilst giving birth- these days it's less common because of sedatives used in hospitals. Eearly reports state that ergot (where LSD comes from) has in history been used to ease the process of birth and make it less painful- although ergot is highly toxic and this procedure was dangerouse for both the mother and child. Albert Hoffman (discoveror of LSD) was actually trying to discover a drug for this purpose. Interesting though- the mother is sedated but maybe not the child. Are we all born tripping or has modern science denied us of entering the world this way?
imo, the formative years of ones life are like one long psychedelic trip. In the beginning, there is nothingness, then patterns and shapes begin to form, the mind begins to make associations with these patterns and shapes - working out what they mean, and how to interact with them. Eventually, a full understanding of reality is formed. When I came back from my most intense acid trip, the process of re-emergence into reality, felt very much to me, like I was a small child learning to understand everything around me again for the first time.
