freeking tragic... this guy had more balls speaking intelligently about what we do then anyone else on Earth. A true hero in my eyes! My prayers are with him and his family.
This is dreadful, yet not entirely unexpected news. I knew this true luminary was in declining health. This is HORRIBLE news about their financial situation! Please do what you can! I know we will. Think about it: If everyone who has ever taken one of the things Dr. Shulgin synthesized then tested then documented in PIHKAL & TIHKAL, gave one single dollar (or even $5) there would be no talk of financial troubles for these incredible people . . . .
+1 on the donations, we are dontating as well. Anyone who knows what this guy has done for our community will be too.
A few days ago I was thinking about what's going to happen when he inevitably passes in the near future, for some reason. What kind services and dedications there will be, if it will even make the news, etc... Strange coincidence. I've decided to cut my cell phone off for the month of december and send the saved $$ his way. I don't really use it much anyway so it won't really be missed. That's really sad to hear they're struggling financially. If anyone is planning on ordering anything anytime soon I would be sending the $$ their way instead, it's the least you can do.
Tad bit more info on the matter. "Sasha is in the hospital in San Francisco recovering from a small stroke that occurred at the base of the brain. The only damage "so far" seems to be to the part of the brain that controls the speech centers. So he has to enunciate carefully when he speaks, in order to be understood. There is also loss of awareness in the throat around the entrance to the windpipe. So he has to have liquids thickened slightly to prevent them from going down the wrong tube. The normal cough reflex has gone "temporarily, we hope". There is no apparent paralysis anywhere, and we all hope the damage that has occurred will repair. Sasha's left foot will need either surgery, the best course of treatment for his non-healing ulcers, or amputation, the thing we are hoping to prevent. All this is due to a circulatory problem, and the decision has to be made by the doctors very soon. Sasha somehow maintains his good humor and his loving disposition, bless him; only when his foot is painful does he lose his smile. We don't know when he will be back home, but we hope he will be released within a couple of days. Thank you for your concern and caring. We'll keep you informed. Ann Shulgin"
Thanks for posting this guys, very sad news. I am very surprised about the financial troubles as well. I'm scraping by myself but I'll probably at least try to get something sent to them out of appreciation.
Thanks for this hopeful update Smitty25. How typical of both of them - so upbeat and positive during this (to say the least) extremely trying time. They are in the Bay Area as are many members from Hipforums and many psychonauts in general. If there is such a thing as a "morphic field", we are strengthening their position by spreading this information/knowledge far and wide. And, of course, it doesn't hurt to push the donation thing too. I'm not sure what we can do. We are hurting. But, I am somehow (I can eat raman happily and can skip dispensary goodies but have to pay the rent) am going to try to leverage $100. What these folks have done for our community is worth at least that much.
Very sad news. I made a small personal donation to the shulgins. Not much considering all they have given me and many others. Lets hope many others have done the same, so the shulgins can get their minds off any financial problems there might be, and focus on getting well. Get well, Sasha.
This is very sad news, Shulgin is my hero! I hope he recovers well and lives to be 100. Definitely going to donate to help him out, he has brought so much to the world its only fair that we give a little back when he needs it.
On this board it almost goes without saying, but Dr. Shulgin has been a personal hero of mine since the day i first time i read a Tihkal/Pihkal entry. [good vibes are being sent in his direction]
That's so weird, me too. I can't help but feel a little responsible for jinxing the poor man Anyway, sad but not shocking. Glad I got paid this week, I will be contributing what I can + lots of good vibes and best wishes to the Shulgins during recovery.
Good news, he's back home now. They didn't have to amputate his foot either :sunny: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/shura/journal
