I was just wondering if the shrooms in my back yard were edible....i live on the water and im in virginia.I know the climate is perfect for shrooms to appear now im just curiuos to identify them.I went to shroomery.org and i couldnt find a big enough picture to say for sure what they are. They are small roundish looking head with a short stem. The color is tan. if anyone knows what they are let me know.I was also wondering if anyone has eaten shrooms from there yard before.

DO NOT EAT THEM. Chances are they do not contain Psilocybin/Psilocin and are toxic. Some mushrooms contain toxins so harmful that it takes out your liver without any symptoms and then by the time they do show up it is too late and you end up dying a very painful death. Mushrooms are nothing to be taken lightly. There are ways to identify the mushroom, but it would be much smarter to take it to an expert Mycologist.

I have the same kind of shrooms in my yard, and I'm in Oregon. Chances are they're pretty lethal. My friend got this book of mushrooms and how to identify the edible/psychedelic kinds, but I haven't talked to him in a while...

The point is, unless you know without a doubt they won't kill you (including allergic reactions), I'd have to go with a "don't eat them" blanket.

Invest in a field guide to mushrooms. You can get it at Barnes and Noble and they have color photos and give you all the info on wild shrooms. But still be careful and check the lookalikes carefully too. I know of a group of people :& who got sick on jackolanterns b/c they looked like chanterelles.

Please read my post about about the risks associated with misidentification. Better grow or buy them instead.
    Happy,hippy day.
