Yearning for integrity, mixed with a bit of honesty and willingness to serve the people who elected them to do a job.

The republicans are doing anything to cling to power, even putting up with George Santos just to keep power and achieve their goals.

George Santos deserves some jail time, not more chances in the House.

He obviously eats babies for lunch.

A party that has decided Donald Trump is their front runner for president isn't going to worry about the ethics of George Santos.

Apparently there is no floor for the amount of dishonesty and malicious greed that the GOP will excuse in the drive for power and keeping the rich getting richer.

Yup, he needs to be around up to the election, then nail his ass. He won't get donations, so he'll have to comit more crimes to get money.

He makes the Republicans look worse. It shows how little integrity they have. Of course if he's convicted before the election the will likely expel him.

I agree, throwing him out would set a dangerous precedent. There'd be a purge investigation and vote every week then. He will eventually hang himself, soon enough. His job is just distraction.

Personally I believe not throwing him out would set a dangerous precedent. It sends the message that you can lie about your qualifications in order to get elected, then once you're in you can't be removed, at least as long as you're a Republican. Why play by the rules?

Imagine if you'd lied on your job application, telling them you had the necessary experience, then after you were hired they learned that you had no such experience. You'd be back in the unemployment line immediately! But in his case he must be voted out, and many Republicans won't vote against him or any other member of the GOP no matter what he does or says.

I don't doubt that he'll be voted out next year, but so what? He's being paid six figures for each of two years, then add to that the money we know he's funneling into his pockets, and we know he's set for life. Meanwhile people who let their conscience be their guide are struggling to make ends meet.

Toss the scurvey wretch out ASAP I say!

House Ethics Committee Report does refer the matter to the DOJ, but merely issues a scathing report. Takes NO action towards his removal from Congress.

    Why?

The people on the panel have all done worse so they could be next in line for ethics charges themselves.

    From The Hill this morning:
The House Ethics Committee in a report released Thursday said there is clear evidence that Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) committed serious crimes, though it stopped short of recommending formal sanctions, as some had hoped it would do.

The panel referred its findings of “potential violations of federal criminal law” to the Department of Justice, and its report will raise questions about whether the House will expel Santos, who has been a subject of controversy since before he formally became a member of Congress.

This is good news, at least he's not running for re-election.

    From CBS:
Republican Rep. George Santos announced he will not seek reelection to the House next year, following the Ethics Committee’s release of a long-awaited report on Thursday, which concluded that there is “substantial evidence” that the New York congressman used campaign funds for personal purposes.

The committee said it uncovered additional “uncharged and unlawful conduct” by Santos that go beyond the criminal allegations already pending against him, and would immediately refer the allegations to the Justice Department for further investigation.

Santos engaged in “knowing and willful violations” with regard to financial disclosure statements filed with the House, according to the panel, and “knowingly caused his campaign committee to file false or incomplete reports with the Federal Election Commission.”
