Should females go topfree in the same environments as guys?

    > Should women have the right to go bare chested in the same places and situations that guys are?

    Hi Dario,

I guess we already have the right, but usually don't make use of it due to social restrictions.

But there may be differences between the laws and customs of the states I guess. I see you are from Australia, as far as I know, there it's generally forbidden do nude on the beach, but common to go barefoot everywhere. Where I live, you will find beach where no one cares about swimsuits everywhere, but it's mire uncommon to se barefoot folks in town.

So I think going bare chested is possible, if you care where you do it and if you just dare.

I remember a early holiday stay in South France. I was at a nudist camping with a wonderful nudist beach in front, going over to kilometres of non-regulated beach, what means clothing optional. I got to know two guys staying at another (clothed) camping, about 3 kms to walk over the beach. When I went visiting them I always did the walk naked, but with a bikini bottom looped around my wrist or ankle. So I was able to enter their camping putting on the bikini bottom (wearing a bikini top at a South France beach camping is dispensable anyway). Once after we had cooked together the boys said lets take our car and go to a disco. I said ok, we can stop at my camping so I can get my clothes. They laughed and said they would like me to come with them the way I was. I was a bit unsure but finally I did. So I was in the club with nothing on than my bikini bottom. And it was wonderful! No one did complain. This was the first time I realized that such things are possible if you only try. We went there another night and I was wearing a pareo round my hips and nothing else, and it worked fine again.

I guess it should be possible to go bare chested in a lot of leisure settings if you only try. Festivals, gatherings, swimming, hiking, canoeing etc.

If I could I wouldnt wear any clothes at all during hot days.
Of course women should be allowed to walk around without clothes on top. My breasts are just another part of me and I do find the general Western fixation just a tad weird. Were they weaned too early, or over bottle fed? Of course my boobs can be erotic...when in a sexual situation...NOT when Im just walking down the street! As others have said many parts of the body CAN be erotic in certain situations. But theyre not on their own. Theyre just our bodies and we should be proud of them, and any staring, objectifying, making fun or whatever is not healthy. Women have breasts, which happen to have an important function. People need to get over it

In places such as parks, beaches yes women should. There are probably some places where men should be asked to cover up more ofter.

I go topless in my backyard all the time, but I think the whole issue is kind of a tempest in a teapot. What I mean is, I wouldn't go to any trouble to try and change the laws. There are lots more important issues, in my opinion.

I don't mind that breasts are viewed as sexual things. Why breasts and not elbows or feet or ears? Hell, I dunno. Just the way it is. And I like having sexual things, anyway :)

At Rainbow Gatherings women are often topless, but not in the same number as guys. In the USA there is a great deal of pressure from the state authorities against nudity :a bare-breasted women is considered to be breaching the law. Outside the USA the clothing optional practice of the Family is followed. There was a major problem with the Gathering in Thailand because of the Muslim view on nudity. The next gathering in Veracruz, Mexico, not an official sanctioned gathering incidentally, was fairly much in step with rainbow beliefs and practices. Women were commonly topless. As far as full nudity goes, the incidence of this was about the same. The pictures are from the Mexico Gathering. The explanation : At a camp site. 31.1.08. The "Past lives regression workshop" held 31.2.08. Incidentally the convenor took the workshop naked and a number of brothers were naked as well. Nudity at a camp site. Nudity in the kitchen tent. I think each and every woman should have the right to choose when to be topless, except where it would be disruptive to a group whose function is peaceful. There is a middle ground that is healthy.

Places such as parks, forests, beaches, backyards, and outdoor places in general where people are likely to be dressed casually, or where males have their shirts off, are all valid places for toplessness. Textile-compulsive people will just have to get used to getting comfortable with the human body, like all other life forms are used to theirs.

A lot of men would be happy with that, and perhaps even more so, women would be delighted with their new-found freedom.

To be perfectly blunt, a vast majority of decency laws are hidebound, repressive and obsolete.

If you distance yourself from the religious morality and look at it from a purely secular standpoint (which you should be able to do if you support freedom of faith), there is no socially justifiable reason to criminalize exposure of human body.

That's not to say that the concept of DECENCY is obsolete - you can do plenty of indecent things with all of your clothes on - but the concept of "naked human body and/or certain body parts is/are indecent" is, IMO, obsolete. The faster we overcome it, the better off we'll be as a society. And frankly, if I had to choose between living with a ban on nudity and a ban of graphic display of violence (i.e. Germany), I would choose the latter gladly.

"And that's how Alexandra sees it".

I'm sure women are very grateful that men are so willing to take an interest in feminist issues. Or at least, this one.

    Cough, cough.

Think of it this way. Men and women have divided chests. Women have breasts, and men, that exercise, have muscles on their chest. A woman having breasts is the same as men having muscles. Both can arouse the other sex, so what is the difference? Men with flabby chests may have more chest protrusion than women. Should these men wear bras? What about a woman whose chest has less substance on their chest than does a flabby man? The flabby man has nipples. The woman has nipples. Isn't it hairsplitting to say that a man and a woman are different in this regard. Women would love to be free, as a man can be. They should have that right.

Bras are unhealthy for women. Medical testing shows this to be true. So, ladies, off with your bras, shirts, and bikini tops.
