    Hello,

What do you all think about this? Should women have the right to go bare chested in the same places and situations that guys are?

Interested to hear your answers. For more info check out these sites:

Yes, although until we all stop viewing the female breast as sexual it will be a long time before they'll be able to do it without being harassed.

The thing is, even though breasts are not genitalia, we have been conditioned to view them as such. The fact that touching them in certain ways produces erotic pleasure reinforces this view. Perhaps it's not really our view of breasts as sexual that is the problem but our view on sex itself.

I think we should be able to go topfree. Frankly, I don't see why it's so taboo. Guys have nipples just like we do. Yet it's no big deal to see a guy's nipples and shocking for some reason to see a girl's. It sucks when it's 95 degrees outside and guys can hang out shirtless and i'm sweating my tits off in a bra.

i agree. just because nipples can be erotic doesn't make them genitalia. ears can be erotic too. and so are male nipples. and what about the people who get off on toes? or long hair? or anything else. i'm all for women going topless (if they want to). :)

I'm for it too. But I prefer to wear a bra most of the time, (or at least a shirt with one of those built in cups) because it's comfortable and I feel supported.

yeah, totally. i'm kinda a sagg-ems kinda girl, and i need some support... but sometimes when it's super hot, i'd go without, just because. plus i wouldn't have a problem with seeing titties all over the place! :)

    I wouldn't mind either! ;)

i think some chicks might prefer to not go topless in ALL the same places as men because it's easier to do some things with a bra on.

i wish women could go topless. my boobs are so big that i'm treated like an absolute nutjob if i go braless in public. people stare at me, point at me, make fun of me. maybe if everyone was topless i'd get some respect, lol. and god, i hate bras soooooooooooooo much. so restrictive, confining and uncomfortable. i only wear them when i have to go out in public. When it comes to the point of equal rights for men and women, the answer just has to be and cannot be anything other than "yes" - of course, women should be entitled to do as men do.
I guess the only ones yelling "no" (considering this forum) might either be trolls (I can almost smell the reply "hey what about the ugly ones..." lurking in some dark corner...) or of the same mindset as those seeing women's breasts primarily as a turn-on.

You're absolutely right in saying that any body part can be a turn-on or source of erotic feelings, depending on the type of person looking at someone and his/her body. (I remember the mails I received from a gay male foot fetishist, after he saw pictures of me in my barefeet on my web site... that was weird, but since he was writing in a sweet and intelligent way, I had a few weeks of nice mail exchange with him).

Thinking about our cultural upbringings (yep, plural, as they differ quite a lot depending on the place we live), there always have been the thoughts of indecency (*gasp*) when it came to different body parts, and how they should be covered, or may be uncovered... there also have been changes throughout history. The late 19th century (Victorian era) had a great thing for knees, for instance.. if a woman was to bare her leg from the ankle upwards and even dared to bare a knee, her reputation was ruined in the eyes of the mainstream of that era.
Other cultures have a religious basis on their indecency catalogues... I guess I don't have to make a list, as you all know about those.
Some African tribes still see baring knees as an absolute no-no, whereas their women are almost all topless without a second thought (but then, they don't have porn, do they...?).

That whole issue of "indecency" when it comes to seeing the human body is pure bull anyway - there are far more indecent things in this world that should be viewed as such. And, for sure, women's breasts (which are, BTW, source of our nourishment - at least in our early childhood! Let's see them and think "life-giver", rather!) are anything but indecent.

I have found something ringing the same bell when reading something about Kola Boof (Sudanese-born African prose and poetry author). She writes about herself:
"I am topless to honor my mothers and grandmothers, my own African womenfolk who were always bare breasted in the sun and who gave birth to this whole world. They created and sustained the natural world."

You can read about her views on women being topless on a sub-page of her official web site. The sub-page is entitled "Naked at the feast".
    http://www.kolaboof.com/feast.htm

Let's have the right to bare all, if we wish... men, women, young, old, big or tiny... it'd be a far more relaxed world. See the pictures below as an example (back from the 1960s...)

I wouldn't mind living in a society where men and women can go topless or even completely naked if they wish.

yes, women should be allowed to. however, i'm referring to american society, has eroticized the breast so much it would be extremely difficult. women will not be treated as equals until something as simple as being topless is no more of a big deal than a shirtless male. hell, every part of the body can be veiwed as erotic. we need to become more comfortable with our bodies and treat nudity as natural. if parents taught children to be comfortable with their bodies and that nudity isn't taboo, we would finally have a mature attitudes toward toplessness.

I lived in a place that made it legal to go topless. It was never a real issue. Even though it was legal, very few ever actually did it away from a beach or their own yard because the mindset of public boobs = bad was still very strong in our collective conditioning.

When the law came in there was a bout of topless carwashes for a bit but after that, nobody cared.

I totally think it should be legal for women to go topless where ever men can. Its acually already legal in New York City. However, not many women do in NYC. Its really a shame. The only way Americans are going to stop viewing the female breast as sexual is if a large majority of females start going topless. The breat is viewed as sexual in America because its covered all the time.

That is the whole point of the topfree movement, which is different than nudist rights. It is based on equality only and has been won in New York by activists in Rochester who took it thru the courts. There is a similar topfree movement here in Florida but this is a much more backward medieval state than New York.

So, yes, women should be able to go topfree wherever men go. I often walk around Miami Beach shirtless and women should be able to do the same.

I noticed the link to TERA. Here is my contribution on that Website:

As far as I know Women can go topless here in Ontario. 5-10 years ago a Woman fought for the right and won, so the law was changed.

Here in Portland there's no law to prevent nudism. So here a woman could go topless if she wanted. It's still taboo though, just because it's in america.

in Austin women can go topless anywhere men can. i was at barton springs pool the other day and there was this chick with a pink mohawk running around in just a thong. fucking awesome! my roommate went back to the pool and saw the same chick rocking a green mohawk. if he doesn't give her my number next time i have every right to be pissed off. i can't tell you how many times i've come to the mushroom trip decision that our embarassment about our "parts" is what's holding us back... we are taught to nurture insecurities, stifling emotional and spiritual growth.
