Anyone know how 2 get rid of shingles? Is penicillin effective enough or do I need an antibiotic? Anything I can buy at the pharmacy or Natural living Center that will help?? thanx!!
It is viral, so antibiotics will do no good. My dh had them a few months back, and boy are they painful!! He got a prescription for Valtrex. It's the herpes medicine. Shingles and herpes are in the same family, that's why the medicine works.
I've had shingles and I think the worst thing you can do is just leave it. I mean, I'm sure some people do fine with that, but first of all, its excrutiating, second it can leave scars, and third, it can do permanent nerve damage. Depending on where the shingles are, it is more or less serious. If they are on your neck or face, you absolutely need to take a perscription (for herpes). Go to the doctors.
