A surfer has been attacked and killed in a shark attack. The type of shark was unknown. Given that it was in California I am guessing it was probably either a GW or perhaps a Tiger. Despite what you see in the movies attacks are quite rare. Yes sometimes there is a spike like that happened at New Smyrna Beach a few years ago.

nothing ruins the ocean more for me than this*

It's my argument with eternity... I can't understand why... until I realize that the ocean is their home, not ours. They can leave us alone or choose to eat us when we go there, so I don't go.

I can remember body surfing on a beach in Hawaii, coming out of the water to rest a bit and seeing a shark rolling over in a wave just about where I was previously surfing!! Never went back to that beach!!

It's just an unfortunate incident. And the reason I never go more then hip deep away from shore.
