Well folks, I am in Missouri at my sister’s house taking care of a Chihuahua and visiting our mother while she gets away for a week. I traveled by rail to Washington DC where I spent a couple of days walking too much as usual. Hot tub soaks for my sore legs were good. The weather was cool and sunny for the most part. I have been lucky with all my trips to DC and the weather has been good for walking my legs off. My walking started as soon as I dumped my bag at the hotel and this was my first stop while walking down 14th St. NW from my hotel. This is in my traveling attire. After all the trekking on April 3rd I did it again on the 4th. I had some things to deliver to both the National Botanic Gardens and the Library of Congress up the hill from there. (Plant drawings I did in India in 1977 and WWII letters that my Uncle Bill wrote that are now stored in the Veterans History Project) For those visits I dressed formally (Yes, this is Rob’s formal attire) The weather was going from cool to warm for the two days in Washington, but a front came thru on the 5th of April and it was cold and rainy when I left. The bus went thru clear weather and rainy but up in the mountains of Pennsylvania I noticed the drizzle seemed to be floating and then I noticed it was actually snow, which had whitened the woods along the road. First time I have been in snow in two decades. I will reduce and label some more pics of my travels but have to be running errands soon. Til later.
I live in St. Louis! It might be fun to visit, but living here is a nightmare lol Ever since I went to the east coast or california it just kinda ruined my home state
Yeah, I lived my first 18 years in St. Louis area - went to New Orleans after I got out of the service and never lived in St. Louis again. I don't like cold weather so much. That's what I've been wearing since the '70s. I know they are out of style 'cause I see them so seldom, that when I see some other person wearing them they really get my attention. But they are comfortable.
Sep 6, 2011 I'm back in Missouri again - doing the same as in April. My sister wanted to visit her kids on their B'day so here I am. This time I flew from Miami to St. Louis. That trip is here: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=433998 Yesterday I attempted to go from St. Peters Missouri to the St. Louis Zoo. My sister and I are zoo supporters and we usually visit together. I really don't know my way around these parts and in the spirit of Daniel Boone while I was not lost, will have to say that on this solo trip I got a mite turned around going and coming. Coulda done more planning I guess, but after a week of triple digit temps, a front came thru and it was beautiful weather with a cool breeze and sunny blue skies, so I impulsively took off on Labor Day Monday, one of the busiest, most packed days to visit Forest Park. Spent about an hour in traffic on the park lanes before finally getting into the zoo parking lot. I was trying to get to the Science Center and managed to walk all over Forest Park but by the time I got there it was too late and had to head back. However, in my walk I got to look at this late 19th Century park that goes back to a simpler time when ppl from the brick and stone city would just hang out in a large green space. Here is a view from the Art Museum of a great lawn where ppl were just enjoying the day sitting around or flying kites. In front of the Art Museum is the statue of our city’s namesake, 13th Century King Louis IX of France, who was canonized to be known as Saint Louis. Statue was built in 1906 and has been our city’s symbol before the Gateway Arch. The park is actually a forest in many parts, with hills that we don’t have in South Florida (it was a stimulating walk). I walked past the Jewel Box a big greenhouse built in the 1930s and where our family visited to see the exotic tropical plants when I was a kid. In front of the Jewel Box was a sundial, which was an hour off, but seemed quite accurate at five minutes to four. In simpler times, when everyone’s sundial gradually shifted with the season they didn’t have to endure that folly twice a year of “saving time.” It was a great day for walking and driving around, not always knowing where I was. (We even have a little "China Town" in St. Louis near U. City - who knew?).
I lived in St. Lois for a year and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I really liked The Loop. There was a drum circle every Sunday.
the loop is the only thing to make me jealous of STL - besides that, let it burn KC is cooler lol shale you should outhipster a hipster if you see them in cutoffs - tell them that you've been wearing cutoffs before he was his dad's nut. bet they won't wear the cutoffs anymore lol
