It annoys me when rap groups mention themselves in their songs, even though I guess pretty much every rap group ever does it. It feels like most rap groups are pretty egoistic.
It is the root of the culture. The whole point of a "song" is to describe all the ways you are superior to others and how you live the life others want. It began with freestyle battles and now we have progressed to Jay-Z in the hot tub with his bitches. There is nothing more to it then materialism and ego.
