Riley Keough in The Girlfriend Experience. Photograph: Kerry Hayes/Starz Entertainment, LLC Porn is everywhere, it seems to be the new normal. Whether we like it or not there it is...in mainstream media. I'm not even going to mention the content of a PG rated movie being shown to kiddies in the dental office waiting room today... but it's a realted subject. The Guardian has published a story about this phenomenon and offers a reason why... Insane seeming to me... but I am not a millenial. Here's a link to another story about a specific show in this genre: https://www.hipforums.com/forum/topic/483282-the-deuce-david-simons-70s-porn-saga/
I don't think this is a millennial issue; it's a literary one. If you make compelling characters people care about, the audience will watch them do anything.
Sex scenes are pointless in TV and movies. Just another platform for some celebrity to earn more money and publicity by shaking her ass or tits. I can't think of one sex scene in a show or movie that was a necessity to the story. Like, you don't need to see fake sex to know sex is happening. They could underline it, closed door scene blacks out. We know sex will take place. I can't stand sex in the media or on public anymore. It literally bothers me greatly.
I don't get what Chris sees as insane either. In depth characters are a good thing. I also don't get what's so typical millennial about this. Seems a logical development that already started somewhere in the former century
Thank you Asmo... the characters here are great, what is insane is the Guardian's viewpoint that sex is the new normal... my point (supposedly) was that it's always been about sex... no matter how thinly veiled in so-called propriety, sex makes the planet spin it seems.
It's true..sex is everywhere, I don't think it needs to be in the context it is sometimes, but I think it's too much. Imagine films like the Bitch being made now? That was so X rated back in its day. Who were we protecting back then? I'd like to see a blanket ban on TV sex, go back to being a choice, or at least, stick to a water shed. Not too many songs not about sex either, but you can't see so no one says anything now.. imagine that old French sexy banned song being released now! No one would bat an eye lol
The article says "Why does TV choose to humanize sex workers", I find that sentence offensive, what are they somehow sub human if they trade sex for something? The difference becomes clearer when you compare peoples attitudes between male and female sex workers. Straight male sex workers, the attitude from guys any way, is usually "oh, how do you get that job" or " Do you use viagra?", gay male sex workers, the attitude is well gays are all oversexed, so whatever You only really see a certain resentment or bitterness when people are talking about female sex workers Then there are all the contrasts, I find confusing Guys paying thousands for girls to send their underwear in the mail, yet when you go to Thailand you see thousands of fat guys named Roger with a girl 40 years younger for $40 a night. All those guys that pay $1000 for used undies, why not just go to Thailand or Mexico for a week? The availibility of porn online is ruining our kids, and yet Millenials are the most boring generation ever Story in the paper today about a poster ad for Honey lingerie being banned because you can kind of see the models nipples....and yet pornhub is only a couple clicks away for any teen with a techno unsavy parent And to top it all off, Jon Snow is Daenerys' nephew, and they got busy ewwww!, the most popular TV show in the world ....why the hell did she have to be his aunt for? I'm sorry, I'm still pissed off at that
From my experience, the only place sex on television seems to be a problem in in America. The Europeans do not seem to be as prudish to its existence on their television screens.
It is altogether offensive. The idea that these goblins are real men. Women having sex with pinheads and calling them real men. Many will suffer.
I keep hearing this and yet sex is all over American tv. Cable and premium channels can get graphic as fuck too. So I don't really get this, how are Europeans less prudish when practically every single American show has a sex scene in every episode?
I really wish people would realize that Europe consists of many different countries. "Europeans don't seem to be so prudish" "Healthcare in Europe IS..." Stuff like this doesn't really say much.
The reverse is true too. There is enough cultural differences between regions and states, that blanket statements about the US are equally as problematic.
With more sex on television, it might result in more sex in our homes. Something needs to keep the hormones of both sexes flowing at a healthy rate to keep our families together, so our kids aren't raised in such a divided way that has unfortunately become the norm. Many times, it starts with lack of sex, and brews into cheating/divorce. The adults don't take into consideration how this affects their children. Sad fact.
i assume the point is that nobody in europe flips out and starts writing angry letters to the newspaper and government when it happens.
The biggest difference used to be the beeps on US tv with certain words being uttered and stuff like genitals and other supposedly too confronting stuff not being shown in tv programs and most movies. Here we saw penis in tv movies since the 70's (they just get an age indication and usually only got broadcasted in the evening. Current developments where you can watch anything at any time is causing a bit of a problem for some parents ) and if there's a nipple or something on the cover of a movie it does not get blurred or photoshopped away. But yeah, America does not has less sex in pop media, they're just a bit different in how to deal with it
