ok, so I want to make a dress with tucks in the bodice, but I have NO clue how to go about it, can anyone help me? Also, I don't use patterns (no clue how). thanks in advance family, lovin' you all :0) Molly
if your talking about darts i did a dress in high school with darts around the waist for form fitting. i remember our sewing teacher being so anal about everything having to be a certain way. this was the one thing while instructing me on the steps of the darts. i had to use a tracing wheel with chalk paper and the pattern to mark the darts. and i was trying to get it perfect with the pattern. and ended up retacing the lines several times. then it came time to sew in the darts and i just didn't know what to follow. i just remembered her saying judt do one tracing merrijayne and use your first tracing. i dont't think it would have been so noticable to not have the darts perfect. anyway i still try to do in perfect just my nature of doing things. i don't use patterns at all now unless i make them myself. i have done darts in a backless dress i designed where they were on the side of the bust. i just measured in on both sides to the same point and found a center point on the side where i wanted the dart. then i just folde right sides together and sewed a little at a time 1/4"--1/2"--3/4"" until i got the dart and indent i wanted. as long as you use the same measuring points on either side you should be ok. good luck and you only learn by doing, so try it out.
I assume you mean darts? If so, it is really hard to explain how to do these things over the internet, so I found this..it is a pretty informative site. http://www.sewing.org/enthusiast/html/el_darts.html Hope it helps ya~!
thanks guys, I didn't mean darts, I meant more like pleats, but I figured it out (yay for paper!) thanks for the help though mamas :0)
