Ah,the cold weather...it is back..and I am sick again...What is a good thing to do when you have severe nasal congestion? For relief, I mean.

The first thing I'd try is a neti pot. Hot herbal teas (peppermint is good) and keeping well-hydrated in general helps as well.

Thanks! What is a neti pot?

I've been drinking peppermint tea lot & I drink alot of water in general. It provides some relief from the pressure but not enough to be able to breathe. :(

A neti pot is something used to pour a solution into your nose, and clean the gunk out. I believe the solution is water and salt, but I am not sure. I find that hot showers help a little. :)

i cant do the neti pot thing..i tried once and hated it.. but i know ppl who swear by it..

pepermint oil..topicaly and sparingly.. 1 drop a couple places on your sinuses and 1 under your nose will clear ya out like ya wouldnt believe.. but its very strong so be careful with it

Oh! You have to try it. I absolutely love mine. It's basically a tiny ceramic tea-pot looking thing that holds about 8 ounces of water and has a long spout. Like Midget said, you make a solution of warm saltwater--8 ounces warm water with 1/4 tsp sea salt. Make sure the sea salt is completely dissolved and the water is not too hot. You stick the spout up into one nostril, tilt your head in the direction of the other nostril (over a sink!) and the water will flow up into your sinus cavity and come out the other nostril. It may sound crazy, but it's absolutely amazing and nothing works better for clearing up nasal congestion.

I have the snottiest nose in the world at the mo lol and am using a vicks inhaler type thing and steaming (pour boiling water in a saucapan/bowl and put your head over it with a towel on your head - just dont burn urself, with menthol it works excellent)

Eucalyptus oil with some pepermint oil works really good.

Boiling an onion and garlic then inhaling the steam.

If you're not into the neti pot, you can also find saline solutions (salt water) in your local drug store that are in spray form.

I just used my neti pot for the first time, and I HIGHLY recommend it.... it instantly made me feel a lot better, though you are supposed to do it on a consistent basis, it does give you instant relief.

It was a bit awkward right away, because I wasn't breathing through my mouth like a good girl, and felt a tad like I was drowning... but I got it down, and I already feel 100 times better than before.

It made my ears pop a lot when I blew my nose afterwards though...

I think Neti Pots are kind of my new obsession.

yes, yes you can...but the advantage of neti pots is that they give a more flowing, flushing action that gets through all your sinuses with much more ease, and much more effectively...

though, yeah, if you're not into the neti pot, I suppose the saline solution would be your next best bet.

I'd be careful with nose sprays.

With me, after awhile of using mine, my nose just started to dry out and bleed all the time.

Before I reply: I swear this is my last consecutive post in a row.

I always thought they looked like gravy boats, haha.
