The bible tells us that dissoying children must be stoned. And that you can sell youre daughter into slavery. Jesus even spoke of looking at women is so bad that you have to cut one of your eyes off. How can the bible be what gives christians moral judgment? Can it be that its what atheist calls human compassion that filters all the negative out leaving 1/1o of the bible wich is not violent? how do you know what to follow and not to follow?
ever since the nineteenth century and the rise of industrialiation, the bottom of the market has fallen out. nowadays you're lucky to get 200 for a daughter. you're better off making them mow the lawn. neways. everybody cherry picks the bible, that's the beauty of it. it's like magnetic poetry, you can make it say anything you want (because it more or less says everything, as long as you stretch the context enough). i think it's neccessary, really, cause the bible is so full of contradictions arising from multiple authors and multiple translation over a long period of time.
. Those verses are purely for historical purposes, which is what the norm was in a certain part of Israel BEFORE the arrival of Jesus Christ. As for "looking at women" being bad, you've got that wrong. He taught that looking at a woman for the sole purpose of lusting after her (only viewing her within a sexual context) is wrong. OK. Follow these whether you are a Christian or not: Respect your parents and elders Remember to keep one day holy Do not commit murder Do not steal Do not covet or desire your neighbour's goods Do not use God's name for evil purposes Do not cheat on your partner Do not lie about your fellow man
Its called thinking for yourself. Everybody has a moral compass. Feel what you need to to, as opposed to thinking about it. Compassion for your fellow man will show you the way. Religious or not. x
