Quote came from a friend of mine today At first i thought "okay, maybe he has everything in his life in check." Upon further inquiry however, he feels like he is incapable of making a change in his life and that reading a few words on a blog post or in a book is not going to make a difference. I think this is a valid point but i also know some books and blogs have saved lives and made a difference for a lot of people. What do you guys think? Have you ever read a self help/development type blog or post that "touched" you and made a difference in your life? What was it about that resource that made it work for you?
What I think is if you are relying on a book or positive message to do ALL the work, it's never going to happen for you or anyone. It's just like getting a prescription from the doctor. You get it, you are supposed to take it, but if you do nothing with it, you remain the same or decline. Same with self-help/development, you have to put the work and commitment in. There's no magic...no spark of inspiration that is just going to make you do something. Read it...apply it. There lies your answer.
It may seem dramatic but the truth is, books contain their author. Holding a book in your hand is similar to having the author as a personal friend who is holding your hand. George Carlin makes a good point, that reading a book is not self-help but help. But when a person is motivated to help themselves to work through a problem or have a need met, books (and blogs) are a resource which serve a multitude of purposes. Quiet Storm gets right to it: "Read it...apply it. There lies your answer." There's a saying, "wisdom is knowledge applied" or something like that. And it's true .. we have to actually DO a thing in order to learn, heal, grow. Other people can't do our learning, healing, growing FOR us .. but there are people who expect others to do exactly that. Very sick people expect other people to actually live their life FOR them (typically, the unpleasant parts that they don't want to experience). Spiritually speaking, they're considered to be parasitic people and dark spirits. Some people want to go through life without ever being held accountable and responsible. They do not want to have to do any sort of work and they do not want to have to deal with problems. In effect, they tend to dump off on others and the victims of having been overburdened by somebody else's junk are often the people who engage "self-help". Sick people do sick things and don't want help. Sickened people want help.
i would never trust implicitly anything i hadn't analyzed myself. my fear of failing to do so, is to wake up one day having committed mass murder, because it served someone else's agenda to have someone do so. we are not sheep. we are media programed zombies. all for the sake of symbolic value which doesn't give a dam about anything real. unless of course, we choose to honestly take NOTHING for granted.
As a FB posting pointed out - quite aptly I feel:- "If you're searching for that one person to change your life, take a look in the mirror"
