Have any of you taken the birth control pill Seasonale? If so, what side effects did you experience and how would you compare the side effects to regular birth control pills? For those of you who haven't heard of it, it's a relatively new form of birth control pill that has 3 months of active pills instead of three weeks, so you only get your period 4 times a year. Sounds like a dream come true to me. :)

Also, I start to get very dizzy and disoriented and have mild cramps about 2-4 days before my period actually starts, and then severe cramps and fatigue throughout the duration of my period. Is this normal, and does it sound like something birth control pills would help?

    Thanks in advance. :)

are you sure that the dizziness and disorientation is from the pills? I know I get that way if I don't eat often enough, or if I'm short on sleep, or stressed out, or eat too much sugar... lots o' things like that

anywho, I haven't tried it at all, though it did look interesting. I didn't realize it was basically just the pill though... one of my coworkers takes yasmin in such a way that she only menstruates twice a year.

I'm not on any birth control right now, nor have I ever been. Sorry, I wasn't very clear about that in my post.

My eating habits vary from months of binging and eating only junk, to months of eating extremely healthy, and I still have the same symptoms, so I don't think that has much to do with it.

For this, I highly suggest talking to a gyno. If there is no other cause for this, then I suspect that the pill would help. I never had dizziness or disorientation, but I did have severe cramps, and the pill has helped a lot with that. However, I suggest talking to a gyno about the dizziness, because I don't know of anyone who had that associated with that time of the month unless it was while bleeding very heavily (like fill a super tampon in 1-2 hours) and cramping severely (the only person I've known who made my cramps seem not so bad!). So, you might need to be tested to make sure nothing is wrong.

As for the question about seasonale, while you're there, talk to your doc about it. From what I've heard, you can do that with most monophasic pills -- you just throw away the 7 days of sugar pills. But, your doc will be able to tell you which pill is best for you and which you can do that safely with.

it might be normal... the birth control i took made me dizzy and i felt real sick and had to miss school sometimes because of it. i'm not sure if i'm going to take it again... i might just switch to a new kind. as soon as my period gets here.... which is very abnormal. i havent had my period all summer so far. its SO irregular :(

I was just at my gyno and asked about switching to seasonale she told me that there was no need to switch, that all you have to do is not take the 7 sugar pills at the end of the pack. She said they've been advising women on this for years and now some company just decided to market it and make some money on an old idea.

I'm not sujjesting you dont go to the gyno but just so you dont feel alone i DO get dizzyness and often panick attacks and fainting on the first few days of my period. Thats not due to heavy bleeding because i'm a light bleeder, however i guess its due to the chemicals and hormones my body creates at that time of the month.

I'm a very light bleeder too, Fleassy, that makes the symptoms even more confusing. lol

Thank you all for your replies. I'm going to schedule an appointment with the gyno next week to see what she has to say and if she thinks I'd benefit from the pill.
