I may have posted about this guy before, but he's amazing. Sheesh. So, this is my thread to post his lyrics in and try to get you people to listen to him.

If you want to get one of his albums, try Alabama Chicken. You guys might know him from Will & Grace. I don't really know who he played and I didn't watch the show, but he was on there!

Okay, I'm gonna start with my favourite one first....

The Story of Little Maggie (This is an old school bluegrass song)

    over yonder stands little maggie
with a dram glass in her hand
she is drowning all her troubles
    and courting another man
    how can I even stand
to see those two green eyes
    shining in the moonlight
like two diamonds in the sky

pretty flowers are made for blooming
pretty stars are made to shine
pretty women are made for loving
little maggie was made for mine
last time I saw little maggie
she was sitting by the sea
    empty bottle down beside her
and a banjo on her knee

    I'm going to the station
with a suitcase in my hand
I'm going to leave this country
    for a far away land
go away go away young maggie
and do the best you can
I will find me another woman
you can find you another man

You really need to listen to this song to fully appreciate it. Go! Go now! Download it, buy it. It's worth it! His voice, the banjo, its prime.

One more set of lyrics for today. This is a great song too. It kind of reminds me of some poetry I've written. Could be part of why I like him so much.

    Here We Are

here we are some dust, some stars
old heart catcher with a moonshine jar
    lost in a dream
    as we try to retrieve
    pieces from yesterday
    what will they be?

    open the box
    inside a string
    your skin is the air
    & your blood
    sings
    on and on
    what will it be
    ambling ambrosia
    broadcasting seeds
    come on come on
    the road you're on
    darkness flowers into the dawn
    digital daylight
    electronic stars
    primitive eyes
    and old-fashioned hearts
    nostalgic leaves
    fall from the trees
    the smell in the air
    is of an old memory
on and on all dust all stars
    shake your thing
    man be who you are

    on and on
as we walk through the bars
    cocktail queens
    send me to mars
    what will it be
    a new memory
    remember the child
    who wanted to sing

    pulsing through fingertips
    drips on a string
    how do they know you
    what will it be
    serving up songs
    serving up drinks
    I tell you the future
    is a new memory

    on and on intoxication
    finding religion inside a bar
    singing to no one
    singing to sing
    singing to god
    sing sing sing

    bus stop digestion
    we know who we are
    we are a neon reflection
    with a glow stick heart
    dust storm detection
    we vacate the scene
    shall we dance
or seek refuge in the acid cabaret
    on and on
    the poets go on
    mushrooms
    mandolins
    kangaroo jars
    medieval themes
    melodica sings
    crooning with bull horns
    the party begins
    cc ryder
    summertime cries
    operatic ladies
    who sing about mice
    the drummer with sticks
    z she strips
    speed with the words
    tumbling from his lips

    on and on
    all dust all stars
    shake your thing
    man be who you are
