A while ago my aunt had her (our) maturnal line traced through geneology and by syncing up the dates with regionial history I've deducted that my ansestors (at a point) were in great likelyhood Scythian.

I've been trying to look up their history but much of it is very arcane and obscure. At this particular time I'm most interested in their use of hallucinogenic ethenogenes in their culture. But so far I've only seen it passingly implied, the only direct information I found (which is still fleeting in nature) is from wikipedia saying the shamans used cannibus to induce trance-states.

Most of my previous researched was based or their warfare and military history (which is impressive, through their fiendish brutality and cunning hit-and-run tactics they managed to bring a long era of peace to the reagion, and even went hand to hand with the Alexander the Great, loosing the battle but maintaining their empire untill it was destroied by the Goths.

But anyway, I'm kind of rusty on that part of the history too. Apparentl;y I'm not very google-savy so any help would be appreicated.

The Scythians were a barbaric group of pre-Common Era nomadic tribes who are a fascinating example of an ancient cannabis using group. The Scythians played a very important part in the Ancient World from the seventh to first century BC. They were expert horsemen, and were one of the earliest peoples to master the art of riding and using horse-drawn covered wagons. This early high mobility is probably why most scholars credit them with the spread of cannabis knowledge throughout the ancient world. Indeed, the Scythian people travelled and settled extensively throughout Europe, the Mediterranean, Central Asia, and Russia, bringing their knowledge of the spiritual and practical uses for cannabis with them.

The Scythians (as the Greeks referred to them) or Sakas (as the Persians knew them) are believed to have been of Iranian origin. They shared a common language, and maintained well-used trade routes that connected their many distant settlements. Although they were nomadic, the Scythians had a single patriarchal sovereign that the different chieftains all paid tribute to. This leader had an entourage of wealthy nobles who acted as his courtiers, and his position was passed on to his son at his death.

The Scythians had no written language, so much of what is known about them has been derived from the many precious and exquisitely crafted artifacts found in their frozen tombs in Russia, Kazyktstan and the Eurasian plains. These precious items included weapons, jewelry and clothing, and were meant to follow the deceased into the afterlife. They can be viewed in Russian museums, well preserved from their long stay in the frozen tombs.

Interesting read; too bad they had no written language :(

I read that in battle, they'd take the head of the enemy warrior who fought them most bravely and hollowed out his skull to use as a goblet, or soup cup.

    ... or apparently, maybe a bong! :)

And I have this in my blood. awesome sause

How did she connected your ancestors to the scythians? Seems pretty hard to trace a family-line back to before 1000 (in most cases even later) since there wasn't much written in the dark ages. And the scythians weren't even around anymore as a scythian people in that time for probably 400 years.

Had her geneology traced. I'm not quite sure how it works but it's accepted science.

And they didn't prove evactly 'who' we were down the line... but they can trace the migration of your ansestrial line for a long while back. I stumbled upon the deduced connection I made to the Scythians while reading texts on Ukrainian history and synching up the timeline of their movements with the timeline of my own genological line.

I can't know for sure, but it seems more than likely, and I'd like to think it's true.

Yeah well, I asked because geneology is the study of your ancestors by genograms and family trees and there aren't many sources to trace back before the late middle-ages, so it is kind of impossible to know (unless you have some exceptional roots and even then it generally stops around that era). Your aunt may have tracked back the whereabouts of your ancestors a few hundred years before the first written source about your family but it's only speculation to say they were scythians. They could be goths as well as one of the hundreds of other peoples that roamed the area of the scythians. Also, between the time of the scythians and the later middle-ages these peoples ended up mixing and forming the peoples that lived in those parts later. So your ancestors could have more russian or even persian blood. It is almost sure that the bloodline of such an early people as the scythians is watered down so much over the centuries that it's probably less than 1% of your bloodline.

But he'd really like to believe they were scythians.
    It's science.

Troll, I explained the logic. I stated that it's an educated guess useing limnited sources of information and drawling logical conclusions.

You try to masquerade constant contradiction with dull sarcasm as intelligence and no one is buying it. Your method of argument is lazy and baseless. Try to get some credibility based on your own merit rather than constant trolling and sorry attempts at humor.

Oh wait, you can't. You don't have a unique or interesting thought in your head. Find someone else to bother.

Oh my god, the spelling thing again? Is that all you have in your troll arsenal?

I'm putting you on ignore... you're not even interesting enough for ME to want to argue with you anymore...

    I'm sorry.
It's just that excessive grammatical errors in the context of someone attempting to be clever really crack me up.
