Scientists try to bolster Great Barrier Reef in warmer world “This is one of many tools in the toolkit being developed but unless we can get emissions under control, we don’t have much hope for the reef ecosystem.” Are we all living on borrowed time?
When the Great Barrier Reef is in danger, we are jolted out of complacency, and find ourselves confronted with something of a grave nature that we had not previously contemplated. For too long now, there was so little regard for our world, our oceans, our seas, and, in fact, even the very air we breathe. Few ever are inclined to think that, long before the first humans ever walked upon land, long before the first dinosaurs thundered through dense, humid rain forests, it was the OCEAN which was the custodian of ALL life on earth............. "Live long and prosper"
I agree....... It is NOT fair....no, not to the Earth itself and, also, her children of many races and species, both on and off the land. Global warming, indeed, is already wreaking much havoc upon the planet; havoc, sadly, we have brought about ourselves. Insane winters, droughts, dangerously-high temperatures, prolonged heat waves, rising ocean temperatures (look at all the ice that has melted from both poles in recent years, endangering the polar bears, and so many other "cold climate" creatures. We've only ourselves to blame. Only WE can TRY to make things RIGHT......BUT......is it already TOO LATE? :Live long and prosper"
DC and Marvel are to focus all of their universes towards people power terraforming alongside the heroes.
If only DC and Marvel can convince "kids of ALL ages" to take global warming SERIOUSLY and to do all within their power to at least slow down the rapid rate of advancement. Back in the 60's, there was a cool Superman story (on an LP) "SUPERMAN FOR PRESIDENT"; one of the things he promised, if elected (and he was, in a dream Jimmy Olson had) he would use his super speed and flying abilities to create low-pressure areas to areas that were experiencing drought and lack of rainfall., thus producing needed rain. A fantasy that, indeed, would be most benificial, today, in the 21st century........ "Live long and prosper"
"D'oh!" "Yes sir, there's nothing on Earth like a genuine, bonefide, electrified, six-car MONORAIL" (Lyle Langley in the "Monorail" episode (all kidding aside, monrails ARE good for the enviorment!) "Live long and prosper"
There is even one of them not far form the Royal Observatory. It's called the Greenwich & Dockland's Light Rail.
Monorails are much, much older than many think, in both Great Britain and abroad. In the early 1900's, the Wuppertal monorail in Germany (still in use today) became the first of its kind in the world to operate in regular service. In this system, the train coaches were suspended from an overhead rail, instead of straddling a single running rail (the latter are "ALWEG" monorails) "Live long and prosper"
There are also some interesting historical items (and photos) online of Glasgow's long-forgotten "monorail", which, at the time, was thought to be the future of travel........ "Live long and prosper"
