http://usgovinfo.about.com/cs/censusstatistic/a/teenantihemp.htm I dont really know if this is bullshit or not, but just the thought of this "above the influence" actually being believed by a good number of people is really frightening to me. I thought we were making progress with numerous states decriminalizing marijuana. I wish there was a way we could get ads out promoting the true side to the prohibition of a beneficial plant. There are sooo many incompetants in our society and repeating something over and over will actually work to get your ideas believed. Its funny because in every single argument for its criminalization people seem to give absolutley no spefics and just vaguely say "it can kill you" or "its really harmful to your health" or "it will turn you into a herion addict". its suprising because I always thought people knew the elementary basics: its not addictive, it cannot kill you, it does not cause cancer..... but interestingly enough there are a frightening number of people that dont know the proven facts.
Those anti drug commercials piss me off, all the so called facts they spew out is complete and utter bullshit, which are written by people who have never used marijuana and collected info from government sources that have been trying for years to convince people that marijuana has no benefits at all. Yet you don't see any talk in the media about the ever increasing use and abuse of prescription drugs amongst teens.
you should probably watch the news or read the paper once in a while. thats the new media drug craze. specifically, adderall and the like.
love how those "concerned citizens" probably drink alcohol which is where their kids will first start to get the concept of mood enhancing substances.
those anti-drug commercials are a joke they are like saying if you smoke pot your gonna lose all your friends, fail school, and get hooked on heroin, then drive your car into a pole...its not even as dangerous as alcohol...that could actually kill you, in fact i almost died because i drank so much booze... you cant do that with pot..
My bad, I stopped watching TV about 6 months ago, so I quess Im a little off on the mainstream media.
there's a pro-marijuana making the film festival circuit now, "The Union." http://www.theunionmovie.com/ the trailer throws out some well-known stats. can't wait to see it.
What those commercials do is that they don't lie, but the way they word things makes you reach conclusions that aren't true.
This is why appealing to civil liberties is the best argument for legalizing drugs. It's really a shame any other arguments are needed. Ideally, marijuana would be legal but mainstream society wouldn't assimilate it. I'd hate to lose the 'stoner culture.'
sorry to say but they do lie in a big way. president nixon commissioned a report on marijuana in '72 (i believe) and it came back with the conclusion that possesing marijuana SHOULD NOT be a criminal offense. check out the shafer commission report. it's been all lies to continue the war on drugs and lining the pockets of those involved. 800,000 people were jailed in 2006 for marijuana offenses. the jails in the US are going private and marijuana is helping to fill them up. "The Nixon White House tapes from 1971-1972 demonstrate that the foundation of the modern war on marijuana was Nixonian prejudice, culture war and misinformation." (from Common Sense for Drug Policy website)
have the commercials changed? because the last ones that I've seen had no facts at all, they just tried to attack marijuana's "coolness". And it's still way cool
I like the commercial with the dog talking to the girl telling her, how he misses the old her, before the drugs. if anything, I would love to see a dog talk.
