the snow hit us today, and early in it my car was sliding all around the road. its the first time i had to drive my new (to me, but its a 95) car in the snow, and it was terrifying. i had to drive 15-20 mph even on our busy roads. and i saw a couple accidents today. the snow is piling up, and then tonight its supposed to be a downpour of freezing rain until early morning. i have to be at work at 6am, and i am really, really scared about having to drive in these conditions, that early in the morning...ugh...whatever, no sense worrying about it now. i can just hope that there may be some delay or cancellation for work tomorrow, but its highly unlikely unless theres like a level 3 snow emergency or something oh well, no sense worrying.
mustang - from what i gather not exactly a car with a good reputation for winter driving. but its all i've got.
for one thing the only way your going to learn is by doing, however fear is a bad thing. it can cause you more harm than good,,leave a hour early, take your time and think about what your doing.. i learned to drive on snow in utah in a camaro.. you should get you some snow tires for the back of your car if yall get much snow where you live,, it helps a lot.. but like i said, dont be afraid of it,respect it,take your time and remember turn into a slide.. no hard breaking etc.. hope that helps...
What he said... and put some weight in the back... a couple cement blocks perhaps. Rear wheel drive isn't so bad if you can get traction but Mustangs are light in the ass end. When you have some spare time, go to an empty snow covered parking lot and play. Have some fun figuring out how your car will handle in the snow and face your fear of driving in the snow head on.
oh that time of morning, stay out in the middle of the road as much as possible,if traffic aint a problem.less chance of goin off the side..
virtually no traffic where i am that time of day. i've driven in the snow plenty, but never in this car and it did NOT handle very well in even moderate conditions. it was the early part of the storm for us - it had only been snowing for about an hour or two anyway, i know i'm more worried and i should be, but whatever. i have a lot of stuff in the rear end of my car, and i think one or two sand weights, too, but i should get a little more. also, i should get tires with a better tread - but i haven't any money for that at the moment, unfortunately. i'll leave early, and traffic is the least of my concerns in a central ohio suburb at 5:30am on a sunday....i just hate the feeling of not being in complete control. i really need to move as far south as possible as soon as possible and just avoid the shitty weather i hate so much. the keys would be nice, but that will never happen anyway, thanks for the advice
Very smart individual right there. A little fear/apprehension is healthy. Just stay alert and stay in the slower lane. You'll be fine.
yeah there isnt much there, but the problem is the temperature. its warming on the road, melting slightly, becoming slush, and refreezing. even walking to the store i almost slipped a few times. and my car, like i said, is NOT proving to handle well in the current conditions, and its only supposed to get icier overnight. several times earlier i was slipping around in my car on the ride home.... hopefully since there have been a few bad accidents today, the forecast is bad, and as everyone knows early in the winter everyone "forgets how to drive in snow" perhaps the salt trucks and plows will be sent out in force tonight. i parked as close to the street in my complex as i could and just walked to my building...my apartment complex, at 3:30 in the afternoon, has still seen no salt truck or snow plow... hopefully the people are smart enough to get on this shit overnight. the folks who work in tall office buildings downtown may not have to work tomorrow, but a lot of the rest of us do, and at all hours of the day. the thing i hate is not all times of day receive as much attention to clearing roads round here....its an important thing, and its a matter of public safety....
hey man at least where you are the plow the roads quicker than here in newark. When it snowed alot a couple weeks ago the roads were really shity for a while.
yeah luckily im pretty near polaris, but it still takes a lot longer than id imagine i try not to get mad, because i'm not personally willing to take up snowplowing as a profession....i know there are a limited number of people working on it and taking care of shit and they get to everything as fast as possible and some areas are of lower priority than others...... but i just hate driving in snow and ice and its easy to just blame other people for not taking care of it for me. but thats stupid and unfair. really, i just ought to move somewhere that almost never has snow
you do live in an area that never has snow. You realize when i was highschool i think we had less than 5 snow days. To bad when everything was covered in ice a couple winters ago it was over winter break
Time for tire chains. Might as well break down and get them now because winter is just starting. Not that expensive either, but you better practice putting them on now so you'll know how when you REALLY need them. Plan B would be studded tires, if your local laws permit them. x
i'm terrified to drive in the snow also since i almost wrecked a couple years ago in real bad snow. i get bad anxiety if i have to drive when it's bad out. it's supposed to be freezing rain tonight here, and i'm supposed to go out tonight with my friends. i don't know if i'm going to drive, the roads are supposed to be really bad but good luck tomorrow driving in that snow!
ice.....its raining now, and it will get cold overnight. still havent seen a plow or salt truck in the complex, and its 8:30PM hopefully everything will be ok tomorrow morning one way or another
yea i really dont like driving in the winter weather either but i have to deal with it because it gets pretty bad up here in the winter. its snowing outside right now and its pretty cold out so the paved roads are pretty good still since its just powdery snow. around here they dont plow anything except the main roads on the weekends so all of the side roads are crappy as shit until like monday. i drive a 99 s-10 pickup thats only rear wheel drive and i got about 6 tube sand bags in the back. my dad just pretty much stold my truck to go somwhere so now im fuckin stuf here waiting for his slow ass to get back here with MY truck. i just recently got some really good bud and all my friends are going to be waiting on me and my dad had to pick right now to use my fuckin truck.
