A tuning fork works too. Stay safe. This thread is SO important for everyone all over, not just the UK.
Remind me never to call you for a chat, although with my current state of hearing, your air horn would sound like a penny whistle.
Avoiding scams is simple. Stop. Put your brain into gear. and you will avoid them. Never. Give personal details. Account or pin numbers. Security codes. .......To ANYONE who has contacted you. Even if you use the company RING THEM BACK, on a different phone-line. Remember. That scams that relieve you of less than £1.000 are not a criminal offence under British Law and police are not allowed to investigate. Taking action through the civil courts will cost YOU money. Emails. Telling you that you have won a prize. Your distant relative has left you money in his will. ........Are always a scam, fishing for your personal details. If in the slightest doubt, the only thing that you should ever give out is the address of your solicitor. Needless to say. Major investments and pensions should never even be discussed with anyone who has contacted you either personally or via the internet. Such transactions need to be checked via the FSA to avoid non registered scammers. All transactions should be carried out using YOUR accountant and solicitor. It is still safer to invest your money with banks and insurance companies who are a common household name.
All right I'm behind a little bit on my chemistry. . And I'm on my phone.. I just don't think alcohol and bleach make chloroform. They my make some form of chloro- But it wouldn't be actual ifbe chloroform it was it would diminish quickly and wouldn't really be harmful to the skin I have dumped a lot of chloroform on my hands.. with no issues. Acetone and alcohol isopropyl through a cold wash create chloroform, but these would be small little crystals you would have to capture. the chemical made with alcohol and bleach is not chloroform but it definitely would burn your hands.. A lot more than chloroform would..
Here in the UK we have several markets selling mainly fruit and veg. By buying directly from UK farms, the food is fresh and high quality. Then by avoiding shop rents, prices are reasonable. One stall sells nothing except farm fresh eggs. Some of these markets date back to the 19th century and some of the stallholders are now the 3rd or 4th generation of the same family. We also have Sunday markets, where people sell specialty food from other countries, particularly France. Flower stalls outside railway stations are another common feature in the UK I agree with you entirely when it comes to the guys selling fake goods from a suitcase. The used to be a common sight, but these days the police soon move them on.
It may be the same here, but the fruit and veg stall near Wimbledon station was there yesterday. I wonder what happened to my picture, ???
Farmers' markets are another thing altogether. Here you have the direct interaction between producer and consumer. It also cuts out the wholesale distribution chain and while produce is not always dirt cheap, it does give the farmer a living wage. What I was talking about is the here today , gone tomorrow trader. A few years ago in a shopping centre car-park a man was selling what he claimed were laptops. He was selling laptop bags filled with potatoes. I was in the UK last year. In Abergavenny there was a closed in market. One day of the week there is fresh food for sale; another, second hand collectables; another day, clothing and haberdashery. Permanent canvas covered stalls can be a good to shop at. A greengrocer stall in Abergavenny near the entrance to Wilkos was the place to buy fruit and veg.
It seems that all the markets in my area are not trading. The farms are not that far away. I cannot even drive to the New Forest Farms, because we are restricted leaving our counties. Such a shame, as you are quite right, the produce is the best. I only pray that someone does not try a scam, saying they are delivering from the farms.
Yesterday I got a scam email supposedly from PayPal sent to my Hotmail that has not been my main email for years. Anyway I just clicked on the Spam button. If enough people do this it will put them out of business
