Do you say eh? I know I do and I'm fighting off the urge not to type it all the time. Do we really say it? How do you say it? "That's a chicken sandwich eh?" meaning "did you get what I told you to order?"
reason i say it as a joke is to string along americans on chat because i never say it in normal everyday speech .......wonder if that's because in everyday speech i speak french ,EH?
Yes, I say it all the time. I have even got my American husband and inlaws using it, and using it correctly. In the begining they used to make fun of me for it, but it's contagious. Now they are all "So, the Reds game, eh?", or "Dang, that crick done blowed up, eh?" having learnt that it is used when seeking agreement or affirmation.
yup i say eh quite a bit,,,, gotta luvvvvvvvv bein raised along the NY canada border....its contagious...
that's how I use it... end of sentences, mostly to seek affirmation. Sorta to turn something into a question, or at least make it a statement that is easy to agree or disagree with and bicker.. erm, debate over
I've never said aboot. But I say "Yeahhh eh?" to other ppl meaning "oh I know now...."It's a cross between a question and a realization spontaniously. like you said ...
I say it alot. With out noticing it. But thats okay with me. I used to think we canadians got eh from Fonzie he said that a lot.
I use "eh" a lot. Where would we be without it? As for "aboot" no and never. That has to be the one thing that really drives me nuts.
ahaha yes! weird thing is that my parents aren't even canadian (mums only half, half canadian half irish, but i've never heard her say "eh", and dad is spanish), and i live in quebec(dominantly french), been to french school all my life. when i say "eh?" to my dad he says "A is for apple" =)
I say "eh" when making statements into questions (in addition to the raising of the voice more than I normally do at the end), as others have noted. And about "aboot". We SOUND like we say aboot to people from the States because they pronounce it with a defined "A" sound. Even people from Ontario sound a bit like Yanks (listen to them say "car", the A is quite harsh). Out west and in the maritimes the vowel sounds are less harsh.
