Just recently started downloading music and have found loads of new stuff and old stuff that was recommended to me. Soooo, recommend some stuff for people to look around, stuff that we might not have heard of before but which you think is good.

    I'll start:

    Travis Morrison
    Yellow6
    Stereolab
    Bearsuit
    Kill Kenada
    Erase Errata
    "Clowne Towne", Xiu Xiu

Someone else recommended Devendra Barnhart, actually, but could only find a little snippet of her stuff. Nice, but not my thing.

Haven't thought much to the last few Biffy tracks I've heard. Doesn't sound much like them.

I'll add the pAperchAse to this, just because. Excellent band from Texas, really vicious stuff.

some people who's albums i have bought recently that i love

the american analog set - soft keyboard based band, don't really
sound like anyone else, favourite tracks - "punk as fuck" "weather
    report"

prefuse 73 - the most consistently great artist on warp in my opinion,
instrumental hip hop...glitch that doesnt end up
sounding like masturbation, good melodies (something thats often
    missing on that label)
"storm returns" "one word extinguisher" "track 23"

esmerine - soft violin, marimba and xylophone based music, probably my favourite of the godspeed side projects, very relaxed...the occasional drums, but always at a level where they don't become the focal point...beautiful stuff
favourite track - "There were no footprints in the dust behind them..."

the shins - perfect happy (musically) music, great melodies, amazing harmonies...
"kissing the lipless" "new slang" " girl on the wing"

the new pornographers - more perfect happy music, 3 main songwriters and vocalists with really distinctive voices each makes for some amazing harmonies...(neko case, dan bejar from destroyer and carl newman from zumpano)
"mass romantic" "chump change" "to wild homes"

the stars of the lid - dont download, not really music to listen to on your computer, but perfect music to fall asleep to
album - "the tired sounds of the stars of the lid"

Nice choices! Stereolab I've seen many many times live and they are simply amazing... Bearsuit I saw earlier this year in Chichester and they're lovely cheeky wee things they really are:)

Aye, it's pretty old skool now but their "music for twin peaks episode #30" is one of the most joyous pieces of sound ever committed to vinyl:D

And I suppose in that vein how can we do without Mogwai?
    Some others...
    Grandaddy
    Bonnie Prince Billy
    Jeffrey Lewis
    Low
    Melt-Banana
    The Delgados
    Yo La Tengo
    Herman Dune

I fancied going to see John Mayall on this tour, I think it was Mick Taylor tagging along with him. But I had to work. Jim's list made me think of it. Uh anyway...

Recently - Aphex Twin, The Orb, Brian Eno, Tribe Called Quest, Jurassic 5 and Kruder and Dorfmeister. Batch of new CD's from my brother-in-law, but they're fitting my tired/stoned mood very well.

Some others - The Velvet Underground, Bob Dylan, The Smiths, Orbital, Sigur Ros, Portishead.
