On PC's, smartphones, laptops, etc. Save everything, as separate documents. And text yourself shorter things. And, make hard copies too (i.e., paper) when possible. Back around 2001 I send a perfectly innocent chain letter to this man thru Hotmail. No money was involved and it was nice. But he didn't like it, so he had Hotmail cancel my account. All my contact information was in there. All the important email addresses I had collected by then. But, I had it all written down. So it didn't matter.
Backup Strategy (Based on 3-2-1 Rule) 3 copies of your data: 1 primary (working) copy — this is the data on your computer or device. 2 backups — one local, one offsite. 2 different types of media: For example, one could be an external hard drive, and another could be cloud storage or a network-attached storage (NAS) device. 1 offsite backup: This could be a cloud backup (like Google Drive, iDrive, or MediaFire) or a physical drive stored at a different location.
There are two additional backup tips that I use: - When I save important files I save them at least twice: Example: myfile.doc AND myfile_bu.doc (If 1 of the files get corrupted, the other file is still there. Plus, when editing one file, the other file is not affected) - Even though DVDs are no longer hi-tech, they are made out of aluminum which is somewhat resistant to electromagnetic waves. I write important files on DVDs about once every six months and also keep a zip file archive in online storage.
