One treatment option for satyriasis is to see a psychologist so that possible psychological issues that may be leading to the abnormal sexual behaviors are explored and dealt with. A psychologist is a non-medical doctor that specializes in psychology, the study and profession concerning behavior and the related functions and processes of both the mind and body, in human and non-human animals. Another possibility is to see a psychiatrist to receive medications that can decrease sexual desire. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor that specializes in psychiatry, a medical specialty that deals with the causes, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders of the mind, emotions, and behavior. In general, psychiatrists can prescribe medications and psychologists cannot. Some antidepressant medications (drugs that cause people to feel less depressed) are known to cause decreased sexual interest. Castration is surgery to remove the private parts, or part of the private parts, such as the testicles. Since only men are diagnosed with satyriasis, women have their own term, which is nymphomania. Nymphomania has traditionally been viewed as a psychological and sexual disorder of women characterized by excessive desire and impulses to engage in sexual activities and achieve sexual satisfaction.
