Interesting. I've recently done a bit of research on Satanism, and from what I understand, contrary to belief, Satanists do NOT worship the "devil"...in fact they don't even believe that he exists. What puzzles me... is why would they give this philosophy/religion that particular name if it has nothing to do with Satan at all? I haven't heavily researched and studied on it, but from the gist of what I read Satanism sounds to be closer to the idea of Atheism. If anyone here has done research on this and has a better grasp of it, I need some questions answered: First of all... if what I read on it is correct, what is the difference between Atheism and Satanism? Secondly, and obviously does anybody know how Satanism received its title if it has nothing to do with Satan? The whole concept puzzles me to shreds. I need some answers!
Because it's the exact opposite the Bible teaches, the satanistic bible: LaVey (written by Anton LaVey) teaches that one must worship HIMSELF. Or simply, Do what *feels* good. Refered to as following one's flesh (sin nature) in the Bible. Our flesh loves pride, lazyness, masturbating, lust, and the like... That's why it's called Satanism. Oh, and his founder called himself 'Lucifer' (hmmm... ). They also do blood sacrifices (which mocks Jesus' death on the cross), but they're not very open about that. Atleast not serious Satanists. I think this thread's in the wrong forum though...oh well!
Because it's about doing what you want, like Lucifer did, rather than being a mere follower or sheep I suppose.. And what Ryu said, at least until she added in that bit about sacrafice.. I've never heard of any of them doing that, and besides, satanism is more a personal thing, not so much an organized thing, and there aren't exactly any rules, so a stereotype like that is clearly meant to defame them.
No, it's true. They make Blood sacrifices, and so do most pagans (the spell-casting ones), and , interestingly enough, both use the pentagram ( ). They've got alot in common!
Ryupower.. To occam, they are just a bunch of splitters from christianity..totally derivative. And LeVay..Well..Was he not a weak shadow of De Sade.? Occam
And you know for a fact that they all do this? A lot of it really, is about individualismin a way.. What makes you think there would be anything they all do? And how can you say most pagans do? Paganism is not a religion, but a category of religions.
That's why I said "most pagans", and then in parenthathese 'the ones that cast magic spells'(like Wiccans). Pal, I've been into Paganism and Satanism before I got saved (if you remember), I studied it man. And all serious Satanists do blood sacrifices, it says so in their 'Bible'. And Pagans, that cast spells, do blood sacrifices to worship their deities. Like I said, they're not very open about this issue. Satanists even BREED babies for their sacrifices...
Yes I remember. But seriously, such stereotypes are just absurd. As far as their bible, any that actually follow it as such aren't exactly getting the point. I'm just curious, when did you learn of these practices, and where from? After you were saved or in the process I'd guess, and from whoever saved you, no?
I learned about them last year, mostly online at Paganistic sites/forums, And some curiosity in the Satanism area ( I actually liked the Satanist's beliefs, thought I was one myself without knowing it.). I was saved this year. And I only met the person who ministered to me this year. She furthered my knowledge in Satanism a bit, her brother was once a Satanist.
So you did blood sacrifices? Because, as you have perviously stated, it is apparently a fact that satanists do blood sacrifices. So why did you do them? Just had a feeling you should or what? Anyway, you do sort of prove my point, you say you were one without knowing it... Because it is no organized thing, there are no rules.. As such stereotypes are completely useless, as is usually the case.. So this lady who ministered to you knows all about it huh? Enough to know it's evil at least? But then again, from what I've read of you I'd bet to her any thing that is not name-your-brand-of-freakish-cult-like-christian-based-religion is evil and horrible huh? And by the way, you missed my point entirely, I don't care when you learned of the existence of satanism, I meant when you learned about how they supposedly have blood sacrifices.. No doubt this knowledge came from your 'savior'? What do we have here? If I didn't know any better, I'd say..... Holy-goddamned-jesus fucking-shit! A blood sacrifice!
Ryupower Cool. So last year you were a satanist... This year you are a christian... What about next year.? Occam has heard zoroastrianism is comming back in style. Ahura Mazda WANTS YOU as his mortal lakey. Dont miss out. [special offer, only 2% tything for first thousand conversions] Occam
well this topic didn't exactly go as planned... nonetheless, thanks I think ? It's not like I was planning on becoming a Satanist, I was just curious...
from "search this forum(philosophy & religion) searchword: satanism" http://hipforums.com/forums/search.php?searchid=1195205
im sorry...what was the point of that? I didn't know where else to put this topic... there is no section for it, and I figured this would be more fitting than a christian section...
Apples+Oranjes Hey...Dont worry about them... Your 1st post was 'crossdenominational' in a way. reasonable questions were asked. And if nothing else..Agnostics claim to be reasonable people. So it seems satanism is a sort of anti/christianity? But it is also all the sects and groups that call themselves satanists. And they say and preach whateverthey want. Many not following Levay...bloody splitters. So a satanist is not an athiest.. But both are way closer to eachother than athiests OR religions are to agnosticism. For ALL the religions say This or That god exists. Or Does Not in the case of athiesm. ALL, claim understanding based on no existant support. Agnosticism claims NOTHING. It points out to all the obvious FACT that we do not yet have the understanding to make such claims about the existance or non-existance of a 'god'. To an agnostic..THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE between a satanist ritual. And a Catholic requiem mass. Between a baptist revival and a pagan soltice gathering. NONE There are 2 sides to the coin called the HUMAN CONCEPT OF 'A' GOD. One side is ALL religions and athiesm,, thousands of groups and beliefs. The otherside is agnosticism. And the coin analogy has a deeper level. The agnostic side of the coin is of course..heads [the otherside not being tails..but hearts] Occam
Yes, Jews used to do Blood sacrifices. Jesus was the final sacrifice. No, my Savior (Jesus), didn't tell me about the blood sacrifices. A Satanist's sister told me. Okay, for both of you, I know I wasn't very clear first! ^^; I THOUGHT I was a Satanist. When in reality ( I found out), I wasn't, I had this thought while looking at the Satanist's 'commandments' (all the me,me,me,MEEE!!! What I want! ), I found out about blood sacrificing later. Then I knew: Oooops, looks like I'm not one! hehe. That's how it was. And I was on the verge of getting into Paganism. ( I studied it alot) Just recently, I noticed, that 8 years of my life I WASN'T a Paganist (wicca), nor a Satanist, but...*dromrolls* A New Ager! Yup I was a new ager wanting nothing but power (hence, almost skipped to Wicca). Now I've got all the power that I want!
Ryupower.. What seems to clear is. If it interests you..you believe in it. Thats fine..all the best for you.. But dont expect occam to believe what you believe. Occams method of belief does not include 'interest', or 'power'. It cares not if occam 'wants' to believe..or not. Ego and want. have NO place in the method to understanding except as a motivation to understand in the first place. For example...You want to be a christian...? What if YOU DID NOT? Would you still be one? Explain to occam the REAL THINGS THAT EXIST that would result in you HAVING TO BELIEVE that the christian god exists. [anything said or made by man is not accepted] Occam
