Perhaps this should be in the "Psychedelic" forum, but I think it's more of a Random Thought than anything else. I have smoked Salvia Divinorum several times now in extract form, and I find it to produce one of the most bizarre experiences imaginable. For as intense and utterly strange of an experience as the Salvia experience is, it is surprisingly much easier to handle than many other psychedelics... at least for me it is. It might have to do with the degree in which the ego seperates from the physical body, coupled with the short duration of the plant's effects -- even though Salvia sometimes erodes ones sense of time altogether, causing the person to feel like they've lived an entire lifetime within the space of the 10-20 minute trip. This is another one of the plant's bizarre and mystifying effects. Salvia basically causes one to leave their body and current reality and enter other dimensions, whether real or imagined. At least this is the way I interpret it. Usually, I feel as though I am making telepathic connections with other spiritual beings as I travel at lighting speed amidst the vast swaths of cosmic energy and endless information which lead to these other realities. On a couple of my Salvia excursions I became part of inanimate objects, but not those that were surrounding me, which I was completely unaware of and detached from. I would smoke the Salvia extract and within a minute or two I would be instantly transported from this life to another life and another time. Sometimes another realm or dimension altogether. Once, on a Salvia trip, I was the bark of a tree lining a quaint suburban street. But this wasn't a suburban street as we known them today. It appeared to be set back in the 1950's, as the houses, the cars parked in the driveways, and the people walking down the street showed. It wasn't any place I had been to before. I am absolutely certain of that. On a more recent Salvia excursion I found myself to be the paint on a wall in the family room of a small house. This time it appeared to be set in either the late 70's or early 80's. I could tell not only by the clothes and the hairstyles the mother and daughter standing in the adjacent kitchen were sporting, but the appliances and general decor of the house. The television was clearly a late 60's/early 70's model, and the furniture and carpet were clearly indicitive of the 70's. The predominate colors were brown and tan. I am not the only person to have experiences like this with Salvia. Many people who have used Salvia report vivid visions from their early childhood, or visiting places they have never seen or been in their lives. Some places even appear to not be of this world, as I have also experienced many times. This really makes one wonder about the true nature of our existence and what we call "reality." How does a simple plant create such a complex and mind-warping experience, while many people report similar experiences, all seemingly completely vivid and real but beyond logical explanation? You have to wonder if certain drugs like Ayahuasca and Salvia don't actually open portals within the mind to different realities and times that cannot normally be accessed in our regular conscious state. It sounds crazy, but I know I am not the first to ponder such a thing. And if you think this sounds crazy, you've never used Salvia.... at least not the right way.

Matt, that's a great question. Let me know when you find an answer!!!!!
And yes, it sounds crazy, what you have said. But then you are right. I have not used Salvia. It sounds a little to intense for me! I would like to try it one day though, I just need to be sure I can handle it.
yeh i get the question but that is all there is no certain answer to it, i must admit though the 'trip' you are describing sounds pretty intense, how did you feel experiancing these situations? were you calm and relaxed? because i can understand how ego detachment could produce such an effect. but i could also understand how it could also be frightning. on another note this really isn't a random thought type thread but it doesn't really bother me.
yep, matt, that was my mistakes.... i read all this stuff about how the extract can be too intense and i like starting anything off slowly. mistake here but ill know better next time.
During these trips I feel conscious, but completely unaware of who I am or my existence. I think because of the almost total ego loss, the sense of fear is minimized. Keep in mind it depends on the intensity of the trip. Sometimes I use Salvia and have only a minor experience. It's very hard to gauge the right dose when using Salvia. Some experiences are very melow, while others are incredibly intense and earth-shattering.
I have issues with fear, and have avoided pschedelics completely for almost ten years now. Not that I am really considering trying it, since I work for uncle sam, but is it an experience that would cause a panic/anxiety prone psychedelicker( is that a word?) issues? I wont work for uncle sam forever.
i did have an intense one minute experience on the leaves though when i did a quad (YUCK!) followed by some long hits with a torch lighter.
whoa, so this is a real drug then...I always assumed it was for people who didn't know where to get "real" drugs. I didn't know it was this psychedelic, figured it had a mild pot-like buzz. Guess I'd better try it before they make it illegal.
Yeah, the active chemical is not very concentrated, so fortified leaf is the way to go, unless you decide to get a whole lot of leaf, and chew it all day, which I assume would be a rather different experience.
Perhaps I am the only person who actually trips hard with leaves alone. *lol* Or I got some really good leaves. The one time I did use an extract, I ended up having a level six (maybe five since I did recall it?) experience and it all came flooding back to me a month later while watching the news. Very scary. One of those life changing experiences that still gives me the chills. I liked what you had to say Pressed Rat, thanks for posting. Salvia is truly unique compared to other psychadelics yet so many people have similiar experiences. I often wonder about this, if we are simply tapping into a part of the brain we ordinarily don't use or we are having a shared spiritual experience. Interesting food for thought.
mmmm mushrooms. i love tripping on them. i wont take acid. just wont do it ever again but i would def. eat some caps.
thats about all i could handle anymore...used to do lsd and mescaline.... well I wouldn't mind doing the mesc again if i had a few days free. Something like this salvia sounds nice because its short lived....I don't want to be out of control for 9 hours at a time at this phase.
yeah salvia is short. mescaline i did three times... once i started to seriously freak out on it though... during new years eve at a club in d.c- everyone was doing a champagne toast and all the sudden it seemed like everything was closing in on me and i started running to the bathroom and my friends were chasing after me and they were scaring me. about 40 minutes later... after being outside in the air with dan, i started to calm down and then had a WONDERFUL experience. mesc is weird. acid i dont trust ... can be too dirty.
