hey, people! so i've had my dreads for about 3 months, and i'm wondering how i can help my roots dread. will they just dread themselves, or will i end up with untangled roots with dreadlocks hanging from them?

Well, when I feel like my roots are getting too long with straight hair, I like to take a dread at the root in between my index and middle finger (kinda like a scissor shape), and then I just move the dready root in circles, and that usually helps knot 'em up pretty well. Or...you can just wait and yeah, they'll most likely knot up on their own...:)

Yea what they said, or a really wooley jumper and rub it in circles on your head (usually means you have to rip em appart again but it works)

personally i usually just leave them... even wearing them under a wooly hat for a while will help them.

Yeah, dude. Get a wool sweater or something and rub your head with it. Or just rub your root between your fingers against your head. Or both.

If you leave them they dread themselves and they dread in a very natural beautiful way.. if you wool rub or do as suggested above your dreads will grow out perfect and round...

eye personally like leaving them to the natural look

funny you say that but ive got a lot of "perfect round ones" from just leaving them. I think it depends on your hair type really. I have lots of creazy crazy ones too but a lot of perfect round ones.

Yeah thats true, plus the shape of the root.. if its flat it tends to loop out a bit

Natural is way cool, I havent stitched my locks and dint get em in a Salon, but I play with em. I find if you split the roots in half and make a hole, then push the dread thru the hole...then make anothe hole in a differnet place in the same roots and p0ush it through again...I find it tightens the roots up alot. Argh I wish I could just show you...keep shinin:)

Crocheting. It works for a while, but later when the dread grows out, that part is just twisted instead of dreaded.. It pisses me off. heh, I did that to a couple of mine, and now I'm paying for it. The part that was crocheted is all limp and droopy compared to the rest of the dread. Eck.

I did the same thing and now my dreads and loose and stringy where I did it. Some of them are fine, some worked but most are just not feeling it as well.
