Loud, filthy, beggars, thieves, aggressive, primitive, have waaay too many children that they cannot support. And they don't really make their cildren go to school, even though they should. They marry young and have more kids (at age 15 or so, sometimes even younger). They mostly live in their parts of towns, and don't have much contact with other people, other than begging and all that. I used to live next door to a family, and there were like seven or so people in a two bedroom apartment. They were loud, and screamed and fought a lot. Luckily I don't live there anymore. And parents sometimes scare their little kids with gypsies. Like....If you don't behave the Gypsies are going to steal you and sell you haha.
WOW......And To Think I Got "Hung, Drawn, And Quarted" For Simply Saying I Don't Like Muslims.... Cheers Glen.
I can tell you that I've never had any positive experiences with them. I worked in the hotel business for years and they were a nightmare. They would walk through the halls while housekeeping was cleaning and try to put stops on the doors so they didn't lock when they were closed. Then they would sneak in and call their families in and try to stay for free. They never checked in at the desk. If you caught them they would play so many games even hiding under the bed and in the bathtub. It was very difficult to clear a room of them because one would hide and then when you throw the others out, the one that was hidden would let them back in the room. If you called the cops they would play games like they can't speak English when you just had a 20 minute argument with them in English. Then before they left they would steal everything they could in the room including the mattresses and lamps and leave. This went on for years with different families of Roma gypsies...all the same act though. Hotels hate them and rightfully so. Since then I have encountered them in my pest control business here and had more of the same kinds of experiences with them. They negotiated a rate for 21 locations to get a deal but only had two properties. They were the psychic reader places. They lied and played every game possible and even tried to intimidate me with a gun. Not by pointing it at me but by taking it out from the cereal cabinet and cocking it in front of me and then acting like a badass. One of the men from that family I talked to was not a total asshole but he was in on the con for sure and talked down to me like a peasant servant of his every now and then. The other was so rude and abusive in the way he spoke to me, it took every ounce of patience I had to talk to him and I finally stopped taking their calls. They told me before I took the job that they had been through many pest companies and none of them kept their word. I bent over backwards for them and they just rammed it up my ass. After that, I simply steer clear of them and do not trust them at all anymore because of personal experience and not because of any preconceived perceptions of who Roma gypsies are. Before my experiences I had never heard anything about them ever. I hope they are not all like that but any race that displays the tendency to empty out hotels they never paid for and successfully terrorize an entire industry(hotels nation wide despise them) by acting like an experienced family of con artists, deserves the reputation they've built for themselves. My dealings with Roma Gypsies started in 1998 until present and the experiences have taken place from Delaware all the way to South Carolina...700 miles apart but they all seemed to carry themselves in the exact same manner. I don't fuck with them.
I did like this movie though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cyBXPMurJY"]TIME OF THE GYPSIES ( Dom za vesanje ) - Trailer( 1988 ) - YouTube
Back in 'my' (6os) day, I interacted with those traveling folk who were disliked by villagers (for their residence prevented farming of land) I found them really interesting, welcoming folk who shared knowledge and bartered with trinket, goods and service with good reputation - for they would be back next year (albeit for short periods) There reputation tainted by those who do not adhere to the general ethic code of their ethnic roots and by virtue o media promoted = another section of community targeted by generality. It's not helped by TV programmes targeting 'Gypsy Weddings, Lifestyles, rogue traders etc, where sensationalism is the main focus than the truth = No change there then! Sure there are 'Bad 'uns, however, they are not unique in community problems/issues/concerns - seems to me another case of prejudice
Yeah actually, we can only wish it was like in that awful TV shows. Now we wait for Roamy to post in this thread. I cringe in advance.
They are perceived basically like this in the Netherlands: There are quite a few near the area where I live and the crime rate is higher than in other parts. I used to go to a certain club where they used to come as well and nearly every week there were fights. We knew to stay away from them, because they always carried knives and weren't affraid to use them. That being said, I have visited them in their part of town (kinda like camps with a wall around it) and when I visited them at their place they were very friendly and hospitable to me.
I don't know any or have met any so yeah, it's easy to go by the stereotype which is really bad. Especially when they travel to economically better countries were they seem to trash the area's they live in and since they live by their own rules they simply cause a lot of conflicts with the original inhabitants of the neighbourhoods they trash. Also because the majority doesn't have a legal job it seems they are always involved in illegal activities. But it has come to light through police investigations and such that the roma gypsies are (what a suprise) not all a band of criminals. There is an organized group of roma criminals though and they seem to force other roma gypsies to work for them, which has even resulted in little kids begging for money on the streets. That in some places in Europe these kids or other roma gypsies were seeing while partaking in all kinds of lowlife activtiies has shaped the consensus that they are all bad, no one really wants them in their neighbourhood (if they live there your house will loose value instantly for instance), they make a lot of trash and of course they are all criminals. This consensus does obviously not help innocent roma gypsies in any way which is one of the reasons they are still a target for the criminals who use them. This is the general idea I have of them so far.
I ment trash Will edit it for spelling for the 3rd time now Perhaps some gypgies are into thrash metal but they are not known for it
I have no notion of them. Don't hear anything about them where I live. Other than representations in the media (Gypsy Wedding or popular Hunchback of Notre Dame cartoon). My boyfriend spent some time living in Europe and described them as : "oppressed as hell."
