I would suggest he learn how to cook basic meals, healthy meals. It's a real challenge for men to cook well for some reason.
A couple of folks now have mentioned cooking. I think maybe me and the boy will be doing some shopping soon. I've been teaching him about how it takes a village to raise a child. One of my best friends and his wive are part of this "Village" and both are great cooks who make basic foods taste great. If I were to teach him cooking... sad. When I started working with him I explained that I was his Village Elder ( No, not idiot, elder) and it was part of my job to have all the other villagers get to know him and see what they could offer. That approach seems natural and comfortable to a lot of kids. They don't feel like they're broken and some old fool is trying to fix them. I'm kinda overwhelmed by the number of people who have become part of his village. Its all very casual and natural, people being their best for a boy who needs it. He's even got his H P family thougt he doesn't know it..behind the scenes players. I'm slowly and quietly working in the idea of his need to give back to the village too...Maybe if all You HP Villagers wanna stop by we'll have some burgers/Tofu for Veggie folks. Thanks for the your thoughts folks.
Everyone should know how to cook, sew, and budget their money Plant and raise their own food Find their purpose in life (huge challenge) Explore belief systems and spirituality Interact with different cultures Introduce yourself and have conversations with a stranger
Could you explain this a bit better to me... I was on another planet the day they taught that. And in all seriousness, Thank You you're right but those are becoming rare skills for many kids
I'd say ask him to make his own list, and then help him accomplish that which he WANTS to accomplish. (I didn't read the whole thread, btw, just responding to the original post...)
All the more reason to teach them. Kid's gotta learn how to stand on his own two feet. Then how to walk. That way he/she will be able to help others.
It's a real challenge for women to change a transmission.....for some reason That being said, I'm a pretty good cook. I don't know a wide variety of things but what I do know I can make delicious. I can also tear a car apart and put it back together.
