While I thoroughly appreciate the gist of the cartoon, I wish we could develop a new lexicon which doesn't conflate being a horrible person with cock sucking, which is beautiful, loving, and life-affirming. Regardless of intent, what does the subtext convey to our subconscious? How does that association influence our kid's psyche and their developing sexuality? So much of our sexual vernacular is violent and demeaning; is such speech really conducive to fostering a sense of mutual respect and positive self worth, or does it subliminally perpetuate violence and thanatotic puritanical repression, which finds it's expression both internally and interpersonally? Words matter.
What many of us eventually learn is that words have power and if you misuse that power, shame on you. Our lexicon regarding sex and sexuality has been hyper-negative damned near forever and I could never figure out why it's okay for a girl to give me a blowjob but it was the ultimate horror for a guy to give me one... or for me to give him one. Bisexuality opened my eyes to a truth that our puritanical society doesn't want anyone to learn and has been running a long-time smear campaign to keep vilifying anything that resembles homosexuality and according to some ancient edicts that haven't changed over all of this time - but we - humans - have changed and many embrace not being heterosexual and the smear campaign becomes background noise to be ignored. If it's conducive to anything, it's to perpetuate our innate fear of the other: If you're not like us, you're against us and you will be dealt with. If you're not straight, you're all kinds of a fucked-up heathen that's gonna burn in hell for your sins and, well, I'm sure you've heard all of the negativity and just like I have and the same negativity I was hearing and after I became bisexual in1964 is still alive and well in 2025. When I had "The Talk" with my kids (two boys and a girl) one of the things I told them was to not believe or buy into the bullshit they're going to hear about same-sex stuff. People do it because it's sex and people love to have sex and the bible and religion are wrong about it because it's not all about just making babies. I also told them that they might not believe me but one day, they'll find out that I was right so save yourself some trouble, sit still, and listen to what I have to tell you - and I'll answer all of your questions. But most parents aren't like that and will teach their children the sexual prejudices that have been taught from generation to generation and there's not a whole lot that can be done about that other than personally knowing what the truth really is. Men can be cocksuckers and not be homosexual and like they'd like for you to keep believing. Men fuck each other and they're not homosexual because we're men and we like to fuck and there are men who don't mind being fucked because it feels good and it's just boys being boys... just the grown-up version and the version that's supposed to know better than to engage in such sinful behaviors but we do know better in that the words you use as a weapon against sex and sexuality have no real meaning and little relevance to what it means to be human.
Meh. Context is everything. Sometimes a cocksucker is a person who can only improve the world by leaving it. Other times a cocksucker is gift from Heaven. Language, like everything else, is imperfect. When the correct context is considered, the meaning is unmistakable.
