Richard Hell. Not a punk band, but he sure was in enough of them, and he was amazing. Television, Richard Hell and The Voidoids, Dim Stars...He's got such a unique voice. I think it's beautiful, though my friends would disagree, hahaha. Any other Richard Hell fans out there?
Howdy Ramona! The only Richard Hell I own is a Television CD...maybe the only one they put out? I'm not sure... I have heard some Voidoids stuff too, I liked that a lot! Man, so much music out there...so little time and money. LOL Ah, well...nice to meet another RH fan. Peace and hairgrease.
Nice to meet you Biggen! I do love Television, but Richard Hell and the Voidoids is amazing. You should totally buy "Spurts" this compilation album Richard Hell recently put out. It's great. It's all the best songs from his career and different bands he was in. It's even got "Chinese Rocks" on it, from when he was in The Heartbreakers.
Hey there Ramona~ It's SLOTH from the Ramones mb and the Joey mb~ How go's it? You forgot to mention the Ramones~ If your talkin PUNK you gotta remember them~ BTW~ Marky Ramone was in the Voidoids with Richard Hell~
Richard Hell? man, that guy has had some career his music aside...his fiction is worth a look (if yer like grittey, often dark, realistic fiction)...... i remember Go Now! as being a brilliantly written tale.
Hey there Ramona~ "Chinise Rocks"is a song that DeeDee Ramone wrote for the Ramones! Richard Hell stole it!!!!! And DeeDee never got a penny for that steal~ Acording to Ramones insiders~
Lol, yea I definetely know all about that, being that I am a crazy Ramones fan. But you gotta admit, that Richard Hell did a good version of that song.
Sloth, Both Dee Dee Ramone and Johnny Thunders wrote Chinese Rocks. Not Richard Hell... A real bone of contention between the two for years to say the least. All three infamouse NYC punk junkie's though. Heroin SUCKS! It makes very talented and creative people very untaleted and very uncreative. Then they all DIE from it.
I'm a huge Johnny Thunders fan- he is my favorite of all-time, but he really didn't write Chinese Rocks- it was Dee Dee and Hell. Hell brought it to the Heartbreakers and when he left the band Johnny kept it.
Check out Hell in the Heartbreakers with Johnny Thunders, Jerry Nolan and Walter Lure! My ears like Hell's tunes a lot more with the Heartbreakers. More up-tempo and harder than with the VoidOids.
One more thing about 'Chinese Rocks.' In the Heartbreakers, Hell sang the all the songs he wrote and Thunders sang the songs he wrote. Hell sang 'Chinese Rocks.' Like I said JT is my HERO of all-time. But it was 85% Dee Dee and 15% Hell. The Ramones didn't record it at first because Johnny Ramone was against the Ramones having a junkee image. (unlike the 'Breakers!) Dee Dee gave the song to Hell who added a verse and brought it to the Heartbreakers. It fit JT like a glove so he played it his whole career!
